This is the perfect property for me to start my cult!
Terrible Estate Agent Photos
Terrible photos listed by estate agents/realtors that are so bad they’re funny.
Posting guidelines.
Posts in this community must be of property (inside or out) listed for sale which contains a terrible element. “Terrible” can refer to:
-
the photo itself (finger over the lens, too far away, people in the shot, bad Photoshop, etc.)
-
the property (weird layout, questionable plumbing, unsound structure, etc.)
-
the interior (carpeted bathrooms, awful taste interiors, weird mannequins/taxidermies/art, inflatable pools indoors, etc.)
-
the actual listing itself including unusual descriptions and unrealistic pricing. However, this isn’t a community to discuss the housing market in general. This is a comedic community - let’s keep it light.
-
Photos can be sourced from anywhere and be any age, but please check they haven’t already been posted.
-
Censor any names/contact details of private individuals.

Mark the post NSFW if it includes nudity or sensitive content
Rules.
This community follows the rules of the feddit.uk instance and the lemmy.org code of conduct. I’ve summarised them here:
- Be civil, remember the human.
- No insulting or harassing other members. That includes name-calling.
- Respect differences of opinion. Civil discussion/debate is fine, arguing is not. Criticise ideas, not people.
- Keep unrequested/unstructured critique to a minimum.
- Remember we have all chosen to be here voluntarily. Respect the spent time and effort people have spent creating posts in order to share something they find amusing with you.
- Swearing in general is fine, swearing to insult another commenter isn’t.
- No racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia or any other type of bigotry.
- No incitement of violence or promotion of violent ideologies.
It honestly really is.
Dust… Dust everywhere.
It screams vacation rental when a property like this has a galley kitchen like that. What a shame. I kinda enjoy this kitschy bullshit.
This seems very inspired by the Wisconsin Dells. But anyone who wants a strongly themed vacation rental can just drive the hour and a half to the dells and have access to all the tourist activities. I don't understand the reasoning for making a place like this in a non-touristy area.
To entertain the sister-wives?
Edit: at second glance, it's likely to train the militia in the art of camouflage. "Always expect the unexpected!"
Yeah 6BR and the game room support this. Themed houses like this are relatively common on VRBO.
Yeah that's exactly what this is.
That big room is like someone designed a terrarium for humans without entirely knowing what humans are.
That great room kinda rules. Maybe a fun rental, but living there I fell like I'd get sick of it pretty fast.
I'm screaming. It's perfect. I want it so bad, but it's so expensive. How come rich people get to live in zoo enclosures? How come rich people get to live in natural history museums? Fuck you, I wanna live there. Literally me_irl:
But this is a museum that is never going to be accredited with any association, ever. Isn't that kinda comforting, in a way?
Is it an automatic lock-in?
(I expect 2 brits to get this)
Tooooo the Crystal Doooooome!!
That's the spirit!
Get the crystal!
Nestled on 17 secluded acres, this is the ultimate retreat experience. Boasting a private lake for fishing, indoor pool, and game room, it's a haven for relaxation and recreation. With 10-foot chain link fencing, privacy is paramount, ideal for investors, preppers, or those seeking a primary or secondary home. Sleeping 16, the custom home features high-end appliances, three sets of washer/dryers, and wildlife views aplenty. Enjoy outdoor living with a gazebo, beach, and fire pits, perfect for gatherings under the stars. Recent $400k renovations enhance its allure. With parking for 40 cars, invite friends and family for unforgettable weekends. Just 90 min from Chicago and 15 min from Milwaukee, escape the city without sacrificing convenience.
$400K renovations to make a pre-historic Rainforest Cafe-themed compound? "Look, we're different from other cults. We have a theme and just like to get a little silly here at Corporate Retreat Hell. We just want you to relax and have fun, but if you break any of the rules, we'll shove a hot coal in your mouth and lock you in the bedroom adobe naughty cellar."
It would make a pretty good dinosaur-themed park for kids. Put up some wire frame or animatronic sculptures, have a little train that goes around the 10 acres. Have a big dirt pit where kids can dig for bones. They would love it.
You could probably run this as short term vacation rental and come out profitable.
Probably what the previous owner did, and then got sick of dealing with it.
I... Actually love this. I would live here, happily.
In total fairness, so would I, and not just for the indoor pool. There’s a lot I’d want to change about it, but I’d leave pretty much everything that couldn’t be fixed with paint. Other than that weird hut thing.. tho I’m sure my cats would love to have a playhouse, so..
I have the "fort" brain condition where anything I see like that hut looks like a great place to make a hangout.
Yeah, I have to assume that it’s actually a built in kids sleeping “bunk bed” place, due to the ladder to the top. I bet the inside of it has a kid-size bed as well or something, for exactly the fort thing.
Indoor pool always looks nice until you deal with the mold.
I feel like this would be great for any aspiring or burgeoning cult leader. I might be willing to start my own cult of sorts with an investment like this, but the laundry room could use some work.
Laundry room? There are three sets of laundry units on this property! Sharing and taking turns is totally over-rated. (But good luck tracking down your underpants..)
Make your cultists do their own laundry (and yours; you ARE supposed to be the leader..). Then it doesn’t matter if the rooms are shit. You’ll never know.
Half the posts on this comm, I just think to myself I'd love the place. Guess we know which type of person builds them in the first place 🤷
I legit like the rainforest living room but the rest can go
I thought the pictures were AI generated at first.
I love opinionated homes like this. Everybody shits on things like "agreeable beige" and "acceptable gray" but it's because it's sort of okay with everyone. Even if this look isn't for you, it's definitely for someone. I'd hardly be willing to do this to my home unless I was truly certain it would be my forever home because I know to sell it in any sort of timely manner I'd need to rip a lot of it out.
Party on the inside. Barn on the outside.
Is that an adobe hut in the corner of the bedroom, for Bible role playing or something?
I saw this house on a show about incredible real estate homes. I can't remember the name of the show, but I remember thinking that this is a ridiculously dumb use of money and now it's for sale hahahaha
Huge potential. Get in on the ground floor. Apocalypto is permanently playing on loop in the background. Tremors strike the building daily and gunshots can be heard. No low ball offers, I know what I got.
Ok so I don’t love whatever this thing is. It gives me creepy basement entrance vibes that don’t fit.
That's one part I'm totally cool with. It's clearly a playhouse and loft bed for kids. I would have loved it. Actually, I would have loved the whole place, but that in specific I would have loved.
Man, I could turn that into such a lovely botanical garden. It's horrifically ugly as-is but the natural lighting and humidity seem perfect.
For sale: Some ruins
I saw that one a while ago, is it still for sale?
At first I thought this was a ruin from some warzone.
When you want to Tomb Raider a bit too much, but the regular Croft mansion isn't exciting enough.
Haha that is totally the vibe, too!
Imagine swinging around and climbing all over that stuff (my intrusive thoughts would compel me to do so).
I would be scared to act on it bcs what if I get bored in 2 seconds and now I'm just living in this silly stupid house with none of that romantic adventure mystery.
That’s what the showing is for; exploring those intrusive thoughts without the investment!
I really like the murdery utility shack out back.
Fuck the house...17 acres for only $1 million? The rest of Chicago is like $1 million per acre. Bulldoze the whole thing and you'd probably make your money back and then some.
You definitely wouldn’t. It’s not Chicago, not even that close (almost 2 hours by car), not even the same state.. at best it’s part of Milwaukee, and even then it’s a stretch.
There’s a lot of land in the area, and where that house is is full of mansion type properties that have 5-50 acres. That’s normal for the area, and not at all something worth getting rid of. Nobody lives where land is cheap because it’s inconvenient, not because land is actually unaffordable.
And yet, the furniture is by Big Lots.
For 1.2 million too lmao
