SKA. The music I love. Is alas very dead when looking at how sparsely ska bands populate the programming at music venues and stages.

Can anyone please help me find the few gems that still tour. New and old. Preferably ones that are touring Germany, the Netherlands or Belgium.

I'm a week late on rent due, I only paid half, I had to call all my credit card companies and utilities to tell them what's going on. And now my check engine light turned on because the bastard is misfiring. My wife lost her dad which fucked us both up due to missing a ton of work, and I don't know what to do. I'm tired of asking my family for help, the for bank is only available while I'm working, I work 2 jobs. My wife is working too and we're even took in a person to live in our spare room.

How in the world do people survive in this world when they don't even have time to be happy? I use upside for gas and shopping I'm enrolled in every stores rewards program, I make my own cleaning supplies to save money and cook from scratch. What else could I do to save money? Also with the looming government shutdown I'm going to be furloughed for however long that is. Also what are some apps you guys use to help save money? I guess this is a lot of questions.

Preferably lesser known but game-changing apps that are able to be bought one-time and put all others to shame.

To help clarify your thinking, which apps have produced such an outrageous level of value (regardless of one-time cost) to the extent you believe it should be #1 in its category, not necessarily #1 app ever.

We'll do a seperate thread for Mac, Windows, Linux, Android, etc but let's stick to iOS for this one. Thanks Lemmings!

When you get to the end of your life, old and tired, and you look back on all the things you did and time you spent, what will make you say: yes, I did well and it was all worth it?

Put another way, if you have an extra hour tomorrow with nothing planned, what could you do with yourself to later say: I’m glad I did that? What if you have an unplanned day? Or a week? Does how you use that time change? Would the choice of how to use that time be more or less deliberate, depending on how long you have? Does that choice define you as a person?

First of all, this is not criticising or taking a cheap shot or really political at all. I am fascinated that a lawyer uses/brings a gaming laptop to trial and I can't help but think it was contrived as another distraction.

What do y'all think? BTW, how expensive are they generally?

You think she plays League?

One of the most aggravating things to me in this world has to be the absolutely rampant anti-intellectualism that dominates so many conversations and debates, and its influence just seems to be expanding. Do you think there will ever actually be a time when this ends? I'd hope so once people become more educated and cultural changes eventually happen, but as of now it honestly infuriates me like few things ever have.

Pretend the $20 million is guaranteed, and if anything will increase slightly over time.

What problems could be significantly improved for $20 million?

(I am dreaming of winning the $1.55 billion Powerball drawling. Then taking the lumpsum, posting taxes, investing, and spending 4% each and every year. I understand that the actual may be more, or less than the started amount.)

I just created the [email protected] commuity for football/ real madrid fans and have had a decent number of subscribers in a day. I still dont know how to get more people in tho, especially active members who would post. Yesterday was surprisingly good since I made a post on a bigger football community basically advertising my sub and it was gamenight. Any tips?

I miss RPAN! I could connect with my phone and stream any time, and there would be viewers, if only a few at times. Sometimes a lot though. It was great practice playing for an audience. Lots of great feedback and interactions, helped get me through the pandemic.

What's out there in the fediverse that's similar, if anything?

My first two cards were a Meowth and a Geodude. I still have the Meowth but I traded the Geodude at some point :( I think my favorites are the Meowth, my Mewtwo from my history teacher, my Reshiram EX from my friend, and a random Kabuto card that happens to be in German.

I had a moment to think about why I like certain games, and I have figured out some criteria for myself,

  1. Vibrant colours
  2. Simple/Cartoon-ish looks
  3. Mid/High level of complexity in mechanics

That's why my current favourite game is Splatoon 3, followed by Minecraft, and the list consists mostly of Nintendo games.

What's your criteria?

Where I live, there's a law that says all vehicles have to yield for pedestrians at crosswalks. Of course this would be a thing, otherwise crosswalks would only be as good as any part of the road. Despite this, it's a largely unfollowed rule, to severe degrees. To the extent that me and some friends have a "running gag" (generous way to put it) where some of us bet on who can wait at a crosswalk point and cross the street the quickest without going ahead before cars decided to stop. Tonight I had to wait twenty minutes for a black jeep to stop, the longest I've had to wait for years (and side note, I noticed that drivers of certain vehicle types/colors are more likely to stop for you), so I lost that bet tonight if we were doing it.

Some of us have also apparently led drivers to having bad vibes because some of us have used our phones to take extensive video of what's going on, causing angry drivers (never referring to the ones that do stop for us) to yell that we're invading privacy. And the response is always something along the line of "what are you going to do, would you really risk exposing yourself just to make a complaint that someone is making a video" before posting them to groups like the main Tumblr road conflict group (such stuff being hidden from there at the moment).

So what's the longest you've ever had to wait to cross the street? And do you notice any etiquette trends like I describe in that one part?

When I’m unhappy, I feel like I’m doing life wrong. I’d rather be happy. But is happiness the point of life, or is there more to it? If I pursue happiness, mine first then for those around me, is that selfish? But if there’s a bigger purpose, then what about people with Alzheimer’s or dementia who can’t recall recent experiences or make plans?

In Robert Heinlein's novel "Farnham's Freehold", the protagonists accidentally end up in a very technologically advanced feudal society that depends on a drug called "Happiness" to control things and keep social classes rigidly separated. The hypothesis of this question: the drug is a pleasant tasting drink you take daily. It has no known negative side effects. It rapidly induces a feeling of deep contentment, peace, clarity of mind and general satisfaction with your life. You will not become physically dependent on it. You don't have to pay anything to get it. A small, unchanging dose must be taken every day to maintain this effect, but you don't control its distribution. It is distributed by the ruling class of your society, but no one is coerced to take it, as they are psychologically dependent on it. After many centuries of Happiness distribution, no one has shown desensitization or needed a higher dose. The protagonists in the book rejected their doses, escaped briefly and were recaptured. Would you take Happiness? Why or why not?

Basically title, every bit of online dating nowadays is either Match or Meta, and we're all about breaking corporate chains right?

So these are the thoughts I had:

  1. Matches based on simple user selection: age range, lifestyle, hobbies etc. None of that dumb algorithm stuff that makes you reset your profile every month.

  2. ActivityPub protocol so that anyone can run their own instance, but can also be blocked if anything heinous happens.

  3. E2EE for messaging (and anything else if it's possible).

  4. Someone wrote an open-source anti-CSAM script for Lemmy recently, I hope we could adapt that to our use.

  5. Just, like, everyone have a good time on this app, we're here for love lol

I am not a coder, so I would have no idea how to do this, but I wonder about the interest in such a creation. Maybe some of you out there could make something I could use to get a date (pls).
