I have an old Samsung Galaxy A3 (SMA300FU) that I upgraded to android 10 with an unofficial lineageOS ROM for android 10. Anyway, the entire experience has been fine, but it didn't resolve one of the main issues I had with the stock OS, this SD card issue. the SELinux policy is set to permissive & the SD card slot is fine, the SD card is a 32GB SONY card that has nothing wrong with it. The card mounts fine, but the system always mounts it as read-only & if you eject then mount it again, it will be marked as corrupted. if you format, the SD card will disappear from view of all apps, I can only see it in /storage/ with read/write perms. Any app on my phone refuses to acknowledge the card & if it sees it it wont read it. help please.

Here are some ADB shell outputs that might help diagnose the issue

We haven't even made it to January 20 (Trump inauguration). We already have major fires in our second largest city, terrorist attacks, talk of invading Greenland/Panama/Canada. almost no one talking about what we really need to do to cut carbon. Hospitals are full in my area and people talk about washing hands, but not about masking. I am already so weary. I don't know what is going to happen after January 21.

With Zuckerberg going full Musk last week, we can no longer let billionaires control our digital public square.

I think this is a good thing. However, as John Gruber put it:

And with a team of “technical advisors and custodians” that includes both the executive director and the president of the Mozilla Foundation, I suspect this initiative might prove as successful as Firefox.

But still, I hope the recent moves by Muskrat and Fuckster push more people to open-web platforms and help the Fediverse grow. It's time these shitbags lose some control over what people consume.

I graduated with an information systems degree about a decade ago, and no employer has ever given me any amount of money for that degree. I have never gotten a bonus or higher pay because of it. Now, I'm seeing so many videos on TikTok and reels lately of students who graduated with a computer science degree costing them upwards of 90K, And they are all packed any huge room with like 20 employers who are hiring for like 300 jobs but there's like thousands of them...

So basically if you want a digital piece of paper that says you're "educated", you can pay $40000 > $350,000. But you'll never get any amount of money for it from employers, it won't help you find a job. It's a myth

The stock Graphene SMS app sucks, it lacks basic features and customization that standard SMS apps have.

I see no real need to keep it for security and privacy reasons unless someone can share legitimate information about the application for a need to keep it that is note worthy I am all ears to be educated.

I'd like to explore other privacy focused SMS alternative apps. Not services. Just the app. Thanks! I hope this helps others too. I can't be the only one! I chose top 3 because I would rather not try 50 apps. Just the cream of the crop.

Drag and drag's friends have all been listening to a new podcast lately. One of drag's friends is an iPhone user, and bot only just got around to listening to episode 1 of the podcast today. Except.. bot didn't.

Drag sent thing a link to the podcast on Spotify, which drag and the rest of us use, but bot decided to use Apple Podcasts instead. Bot told the show to play from oldest to newest. So naturally, Apple decided to start on Season 7 Episode 1, and cover the season indicator with an ad, so bot thought bot was on season 1.

This is atrocious. What kind of app covers its own important information with ads? Bot's been given a bunch of spoilers and had no way of knowing, except for the fact bot should have known not to trust Apple.

Drag hopes that nobody ever uses that terrible app again. Drag was looking forward to vicariously experiencing the early episodes through thing and talking about the show with ALL of drag's friends. Now it looks like that might not happen. Drag's furious.

Let's say I've got Nextcloud selfhosted in my basement and that it is accessible on the world wide web at nextcloud.kickassdomain.org. When someone puts in that URL, we'll have all the fun DNS-lookups trying to find the IP address to get them to my router, and my router forwards ports 80 and 443 to a machine running a reverse-proxy, and the reverse-proxy then sends it to a machine-and-port that Nextcloud is listening to.

When I do this on my phone next to that computer hosting Nextcloud, (I believe) what happens is that the data leaves and re-enters my home network as my router sends the data to the IP address it is looking for (which is itself). This would mean that instead of getting a couple hundred Mbps from the local wifi (or being etherneted in and getting even more), I'm limited by my ISPs upload speed of ~25Mbps.

Maybe that just isn't the case and I've got nothing to worry about...

What I want my network to do is to know that nothing has to leave the network at all and just use the local speeds. What I tried before was using a DNS re-write in Adguard such that anything going to my kickassdomain would instead go to the local IP address (so like nextcloud.kickassdomain.org -> 192.168.0.99). This seemed to cause a lot of problems when I then left the house because, I assume, the DNS info was cached and my phone would out in the world and try to connect to that IP and fail.

My final goal here is that I want to upload/download from my selfhosted applications (like nextcloud) without being limited by the relatively slow upload speed of the ISP.

Maybe the computer already figured all this out, though - it does seem like my router should know it's own IP and not bother sending things out into the world just for them to come back.

If it matters, my IP address is pretty stable, but more importantly it is unique to me (like every house in the neighborhood has their own IP).

Updates from testing: So everything does indeed just work without me needing to change how I already had it set up, presumably because the router did the hairpin NAT action folks are talking about here.

I tested it by installed iperf3 on the server then I used my phone (using the PingTools Network Utilities android app, only found on google play and not on f-droid) to connect. Here are the results:

  1. Phone to local IP address (192.168.0.xxx) - ~700 Mbits/second
  2. Phone to speedtest.mykickassdomain.org while still on the wifi - ~700 Mbits/second
  3. Phone on cellular to speedtest.mykickassdomain.org - ~4 Mbits/second

Late last year, Google widely rolled out “profile sharing” wherein you set what name and contact photo other people see in the Messages app.

I thought one of the advantages of the Fediverse was to have one account but access to many services. Is this possible just not common? I already have a Lemmy account and Mastodon and I didn't want to start making more just to try out the other services.

I can't seem to find hardware requirements in the spec. Can someone help me out?

Looking to run this in a docker container with a Postgres DB, not sqlite.
