I downloaded the game from soft32 (this file used to work on the old days). I installed both WINE and Lutris, but the game runs like sh**t. I get .NET and Vulkan errors from Lutris&WINE. Can you give me a newbie friendly guide for the right way? I'm tired of scrapping the web and it doesn't help that I have limited data.
My system:
Device: HP 15 Notebook PC i5-4210U
OS: Ubuntu MATE (basically ubuntu 22.04)
GPU: Intel® HD Graphics 4400 (integrated) & Nvidia GeForce 820M (I'm not even sure which of them I'm using).

Cs 1.6 has native version for linux. Why are you trying to play it with WINE?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago (2 children)

You can also play it in a browser now.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago

it lags as hell

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago

As cool as it is, that version is filled with microtransactions and doesn't access the same servers

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

umm, how do I pirate it? I mean I didn't buy it (although I'm playing it since 6y old me 2006)

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

You can find them on zamunda or torrminator

I'd ask the friendly folk over at [email protected]. I don't feel like piracy communities are the right place to ask Linux gaming questions.

well, this is a Linux piracy question. I had the idea of asking over at r/piratedgames, but their mod has black belt on rule-fu. Do gaming@beehaw allow this kind of discussion/request, I mean piracy request

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

I don't think it's a piracy request. The crack works, but the game runs poorly.

I know you are asking for cs 1.6, but do you know counter strike 2 is free on steam and have compatibility with Linux?

[–] [email protected] 16 points 11 months ago (1 children)

LooL didn't know this. But anyway my PC is considered Potato, and I'm posting to get a safe example guide for Linux Piracy.

This is the MINIMUM: OS: Ubuntu 20.04 Processor: 4 hardware CPU threads - Intel® Core™ i5 750 or higher Memory: 8 GB RAM Graphics: AMD GCN+ or NVIDIA Kepler+ with up-to-date Vulkan drivers. Support for VK_EXT_graphics_pipeline_library highly recommended. Storage: 85 GB available space Sound Card: Highly recommended

You should try with your CPU and GPU

I think you're right about this. especially since I have some data left in my plan.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 11 months ago (3 children)

It's still a little buggy and lacks many of the CSGO features, I just wish they didn't disable CSGO that early, that worked great!

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

lacks many of the CSGO features,

Well, the OP is not trying to play CSGO.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago
[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

They didn't disable it, you can roll back to csgo in the steam options

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Hmmm, I definitely have to look into that!

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Some of the community servers are still running on the legacy CSGO thing

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Wait, what happened to CS:GO?

I only tried playing it twice, but it really didn't like running on my computer.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

Counter Strike 2 replaced it.

Maybe it's better now but cs2 had like 50% worse FPS on Linux compared to Windows on launch. Mesa driver users also reported smokes being invisible sometimes. It'll probably get ironed out though if it hasn't already

Can we play over LAN, tho?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

Yeah there's no change in that regard. They're not making the servers closed down any time soon

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

Haven't played it yet but if it's anything like go I would go back to cs 1.6 too

Seems legit, but don't provide direct links (as tempting as it is).

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

It isn't a direct link, it's a link to a page where you can download a torrent file or get a magnet link. I thought this was allowed in this community? Maybe things have changed, in which case I'd gladly delete my comment.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

A magnet is hyperlink, and if you link it, it's a direct link.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I'm not here to argue semantics, I'm just going off what the instance admin posted, specially section 3;

Magnet Links and links to Torrent files are OK, unless we start getting into trouble for it.

If dbzer0 has started getting into trouble for it, I'll gladly delete my comment.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I agree. That's the point, though. It's just helps keep them out of trouble. It's better to go through DM's. It's not a rule though, I agree.

Thank you! I watched a video recommending them but was afraid if they are actually a trusted resource, That and if their guide would break my system if they are not. They are not in the megathread, but mentioned on r/piratedgames as JohnCena141 being safe.

Here is an alternative Piped link(s):

You don't need to install wine. In Lutris you should set the wine version to the latest proton-ge (that's a wine fork for gaming). And also did you install the game via Lutris or wine? You should install it via lutris. I just did it once with a pirated game (NFS Most Wanted) and it worked just fine.
