The only thing worse is New Outlook. They took away all of the power features and a good deal of the customization, and so you are left with something that feels like it was designed for a mobile app while you try to manage thousands of emails.

It's literally their web app put in a Chrome window.

It's outrageous. The Mac version of Outlook is way better, and it's native!!

Not the first time either. Office2004 Mac was ~~peak~~ the last time I remember not hating using any Office app.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

checks out - Offixe XP (2003ish) was the peak of MS Office, afterwards it became shittier than used toilet paper.

Big-time disagree. Been using Windows and Mac versions of Office for over two decades. The Windows version is far superior in pretty much every metric I can think of.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 5 months ago

No way. I just switched to a Mac at work And I love the lack of integration with OneDrive, 365, etc. office on Mac is better because it hasn't been made worse yet like the windows versions.

For now. That's also being killed in favor of the web app.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 5 months ago (2 children)

its clear that eventually all the office apps will be web apps in either your browser or their own individual chromium instances. At least it means Linux users will finally get Microsoft office 🙃

[–] [email protected] 4 points 5 months ago

I’m sure it’ll be helpful for some people who just want an os that does what they’re used to, but I’ve been using libre for like a decade for a reason

At least it means Linux users will finally get Microsoft office

Thanks but no thanks, I'll stick with LibreOffice if it's all the same to you.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

Yeah I wouldn't be all that interested either

IT here: you're all insane. Outlook is a dumpster fire, Outlook for Mac is a slightly prettier dumpster fire. The idea of locally syncing emails in 2024 is laughable, a web browser is exactly where you should view your emails.

[–] [email protected] 17 points 5 months ago

Oh no, fuck off with that attitude, you will take my Thunderbird out of my cold dead hands

I absolutely hate using browsers for anything other than a quick web search

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 months ago (1 children)

IT here: you're right about Outlook being junk, but I disagree with your current year argument. What's laughable about having your emails synced locally?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago (1 children)

If your company doesn't pay up or there is a failure with the processing, you would still have all your mails locally instead of your cloud provider deleting them all plus all backups.

Clearly that would be terrible.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

Not sure whether you're kidding, but that sounds like slacking time, so yes please, put that stuff on the cloud

[–] [email protected] 23 points 5 months ago (1 children)

And they absolutely fucked years and years of security training by fucking with url previews and truncating the front of the url.

What the actual fuck were they thinking?

[–] [email protected] 10 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Hadn't realized that change was in there. What a mess.

[–] [email protected] 9 points 5 months ago

I probably wouldn't have either of my CISO didn't have to deal with it (and bitched at me to try to find a fix) because new outlook is just the shit mail app with a fresh coat of paint.

They'll have to take old outlook out of my cold dead hands.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 5 months ago

I made the mistake of trying to mark 900 unread emails as read

do not do that if you're in a hurry

[–] [email protected] 8 points 5 months ago

Recently a LOT of my emails with hotmail have been getting blocked at the server level, they arent even reaching my junk mail, which makes troubleshooting why I'm not getting emails a nightmare, ESPECIALLY in this day and age if 2fA

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago

New Outlook is just the old Windows Mail application reskinned. The fact that you can have both Outlook and NEW Outlook installed at the same time is weird. Working in IT, its one thing I check when working with end users.
