The Equality and Human Rights Commission has published interim guidance following last week's Supreme Court decision. It instructs organisations that manage public spaces and workplaces to create segregated mixed-sex bathrooms, washing and changing facilities for Trans+ people to use.

It does this on the basis that same-sex spaces can only be used by people that align with the Supreme Court's definition of 'biological sex', while also saying that Trans+ perceived to be of the wrong gender can't use bathrooms that match their biological sex.

If taken beyond interim guidance and made statutory, it would be the biggest human rights disaster since racial segregation and apartheid.

The guidance covers workplaces, schools, and services open to the public, such as hospitals, shops and restaurants.

It stipulates that, where possible, mixed-sex toilets, washing and changing facilities should now be provided. In an interim period, it sets out where this is not possible, trans people should not be put in a position where there are no facilities for them to use.

I've been thinking lately about why, in debates (usually) about highly emotional topics, so many people seem unable to acknowledge even minor wrongdoings or mistakes from "their" side, even when doing so wouldn't necessarily undermine their broader position.

I'm not here to rehash any particular political event or take sides - I'm more interested in the psychological mechanisms behind this behavior.

For example, it feels like many people bind their identity to a cause so tightly that admitting any fault feels like a betrayal of the whole. I've also noticed that criticism toward one side is often immediately interpreted as support for the "other" side, leading to tribal reactions rather than nuanced thinking.

I'd love to hear thoughts on the psychological underpinnings of this. Why do you think it's so hard for people to "give an inch" even when it wouldn't really cost them anything in principle?

The title says it all. I want to wipe my phone and then only use open source apps. The thing im afraid of is not backing up my data correctly and losing things like my keepass.

I have to make sure the data from the open source apps is downloadable as well so i can reload them to my phone.

Any tips to assist me with this process?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a system that:

  • I can self host
  • Is slim, because I don't have beefy hardware (Intel J5040, 32GB RAM, shared by all VMs/containers)
  • can be used to create an inventory of all the tech/hardware that I have in my house (not exclusively IT, I also wasn't to track things like warranty for my chainsaws and the like)
  • does take at least the device make/model, serial number (for insurance cases) and warranty dates
  • is not some kind of enterprise-how-many-items-of-this-article-do-i-have-in-stock-things, because that seems to be the only thing I seem to be able to find, and they neither match my use case nor do they seem to be lightweight enough.

... and honestly, I don't even know where to start looking. Do you guys have any recommendations?

Of course, I could just use a spreadsheet, but where's the fun in that?

WT please fire your marketing people. I've received "specials" emails every day since the I made one purchase. Nobody needs that many floor mats. Trying to unsub, the page loads with so many trackers and other crap that it crashes because of my ad-blocker and DNS filter.

I was able to make it work in Librewolf but this is the kind of thing that drives away customers.

After appx. 20 years in the apple eco-system I have decided to move on.

This will take time, i’m thinking 2-5 years.

My first order of business was a tablet. I couldn’t find a viable european tablet so went for a Samsung Tab S10 Ultra which has worked out great. It won me over from my pre-conception that android is somehow more budget, 2nd tier stuff. Its actually a very solid well-designed/built piece of kit in every way an equal to an iPad.

So i’m looking at Fairphone and Nothing right now for a new phone, i’m not in a hurry, I was supposed to upgrade my 14 Pro this autumn and i’m thinking that is still the time line.

Are there other european alternatives that I should be looking at?

Will air pods and apple watches still work in any sort of way with android? I will eventually replace them but both are still quite new.

Any advice from people who has already done this journey?

Pic ridiculous but related.
