Welp, this is a category that's difficult alright, partly because of differences in PPP that'll make it hard to define. Bottom and top are easy, since there's always a clear ceiling and floor.

I'll go with something more universal: Samsung Galaxy A54. The build quality is nicer than my A52s (the outer frame is more solid and doesn't have the occasional flex that some units get), and the Exynos SoC in this one is fast enough. Going back to a 19.5:9 aspect ratio screen means it's also more useful on the wider end. Like most of the A50 series, great battery life too. Alas no more headphone jack since the A53. Still has a micro SD card slot. OIS on a 2/3" image sensor. Almost perfect otherwise. Cheap too, can get it for US$350 for the 256GB variant.

Will take a look when the update hits, but I hope it doesn't overcomplicated it. Keep is nice for quick, short-term notes, and I like it the way it is.

Well, I never thought of the up scaling techs and AI in that way. That makes a lot of sense, but also depressing for the GPU market.

I too, don't really like how the demos of both DLSS and FRS look. There's always something off about them.

I went from a 1070 to a 6700 XT myself for the same reason. nVidia can fuck off.

Allan keys (hex wrenches) are absolutely a normal tool, heck, if you've bought IKEA furniture, you may even have one already!

Wow, a reply that's not from the Linux circlejerk that seems to be the default of the fediverse. I had to make sure that I was still at the correct website.

Linux isn't that bad nowadays, though when you hit a problem it still entails quite a bit more work than when on Windows. I do get the frustration with the oldheads though!

It's definitely a US thing, I'm on English (Singapore) and have not seen an ad, ever. I was perplexed by all the complaints of ads in the start menu and wherever, until someone pointed to me that it was a US thing.

The thing is, it's actually decent. I don't know why they have to keep doing this. I used Edge as the main browser on my Surface Go to get a bit more battery life, and it's fine as my second browser; feels like someone is desperately trying to meet their KPIs to keep on pulling shit like this. Parts of the browser are getting worse too, that sidebar is a complete mess at default.

Well damn, thanks for highlighting this. Didn't even know they're still making stuff, and Fujitsu has the cheaper FMV MH for under US$1k running Ryzen CPUs too!

I've seen this game before. You'll get the tablet, but the specs are all faked in some way or another. Very likely you'll end up with a 1280x800 screen with a Dimensity 900 SoC instead. Yes, the hardware will report 2560x1600 but your eyes will tell you it's definitely 1280x800.

Does using the MS launcher count? I'm using it on my work phone, and it's actually a decent launcher.

I ran a Lineage OS on a Mi 5 for 2.5 years, there were definitely some days when my banking app would fail and then Magisk would come up with a fix a few days later. Given the prevalance of digital systems I'm not wanting to go without.

Feel like I'm being attacked for not wanting to root, in a thread asking people whether they root or not. This feels like people being asked if they believe in Jesus and those who say no are swamped by believers who then chastisise them.
