On one hand, I agree that little boys roughhousing is probably a good thing. On the other, most of the people who admire combat seem to be the ones who are afraid to actually walk the streets after dark.

One of the great design tricks of Central Park is that at almost every entrance you go downhill. You are instantly cut off from the city noise.

If you remember Pogo, look up political novelist Ross Thomas. He was a Washington based reporter for most of the 1950s and started writing fiction in the 1960s. 'The Fools In Town Are On Our Side' is about an attempt to clean up a corrupt Southern city by making it so rotten that even the pimps will vote for reform.

My opinion is that most traffic departments in the US rely on outdated rules for placing signs. There's one I use on a regular basis and unless you've been through it a few times it's almost impossible to figure out when to turn.

No, it's like saying expecting a tribesman to use a computer is crazy.

I'm American and I've used roundabouts. Plenty of them have poorly placed signs that confuse people.

If the consumer can't use the product, it's a bad product. I've had teachers who knew their subject, but couldn't convey the knowledge; they were bad teachers. If people can't handle roundabouts, it's the traffic department's fault.
