These last few months, each picture of Elon looks like another transition snapshot of Smeagol turning into Gollum.

It's a common tactic of news outlets to choose bad pictures of people they're against and good pictures of people they're for. Once you see it, it cannot be unseen.

I thought he was a free speech absolutist?

[–] [email protected] 98 points 1 month ago (1 children)

"Free speech" just means "I want to spout garbage without pushback (like fact checking) or consequences."

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago

Just like undecided voter in the US means in the closet right wing.

[–] [email protected] 38 points 1 month ago

He is absolutely for his free speech.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 month ago

Only for nazis

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago

No, no. Bullshit absolutist.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I mean he made it very clear this was not true on like day 3 when he banned the one person he explicitly said he would not ban (the guy reposting public info about the travels of Elon's Jet).

Since then it's become abundantly clear he only wants "free speech" for things he likes and not for ones he doesn't. He wanted control and influence.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

Nope. Just a piece of absolute shit. The nastiest shit always floats to the top and gloms together.

Recent JD Vance interview went something like this:

Lulu Garcia-Navarro: "Senator, yes or no: Did Donald Trump lose the 2020 election?"

JD Vance: "Let me ask you a question. Is it OK that big technology companies censored the Hunter Biden laptop story, which independent analysts have said cost Trump millions of votes?"

Lulu Garcia-Navarro: "Senator Vance, I’m going to ask you again, did Donald Trump lose the 2020 election?"

JD Vance: "Did big technology companies censor a story that independent studies have suggested cost Trump millions of votes? I think that’s the question."

🤔

This always cracks me up. He's mad about big tech censoring political information, but wants HIS political information censored. Probably not even bright enough to realize how pathetic he sounds.

It's unbelievable how nearly half of America wants this guy to be their next VP.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

They should have just ended the interview there, aired that bit and then said "since Vance refuses to answer questions honestly and keeps using weasel words and counter questions there is no honest conversation to be had. JD Vance ducks couches and puts his cast iron skillet in the dishwasher.... He is a monster.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I mean they never should have started it. I watched the first couple minutes of the Presidential debate and right away Kamala was dodging questions. That's just what politicians do. No point in asking the questions in the first place. If you actually hold their feet to the fire and force them to answer, they'll just never talk to you again.

Fortunately the presenters wasted everyone's time trying to argue with Trump and Vance, so neither of them will ever come back.

[–] [email protected] 18 points 1 month ago

That was an excruciating interview to listen to. He started off kinda sounding sane, but as time went on, more of his fringe ideas started showing, culminating to that point.

If Hunter is so bad, wait til he hears about Trump's children

[–] [email protected] 42 points 1 month ago

Oh wow, the trump campaign doing shit it accused the Democrats of doing?!?!?!

I'm 10000% unsurprised.

So basically the wildest conspiracy theories about Twitter pre-Elon are true now, but in reverse

elon just gives off such a horrible ick

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I've been job hunting for 3 months. Hardly any recruiters are reaching out, and my applications go nowhere. A recruiter from xAI reached out the other day, and I couldn't bring myself to even apply. I told them I wasn't interested without specifying why, but it's Elon.

[–] [email protected] 13 points 1 month ago (1 children)
[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That recruiter might work somewhere less shit in the future, so I'd rather not burn a bridge unnecessarily.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Just be honest with the recruiter that the particular employer is the issue, but you would be open to discussing other opportunities. That doesn't burn bridges, and it helps them better determine what you're looking for.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 month ago

Exactly. And if he nods his head silently, you understood each other. If he starts asking "but why, Elon is great!", burn the bridge.

You don't wanna stumble upon him in the future when he's gonna be recruiting for another Elon. 😉

"Muh free speech, muh Twitter Files, muh government censorship Hunter Biden laptop."

[–] [email protected] 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Why don't we just let Twitter/X die? It's not like it's an essential platform, there are other places to post short-form bullshit opinions. Twitter/X is not the sole supplier of any resources except their own brand name. Just walk away and let it burn. Without massive public engagement, it's just a more expensive to run Truth Social.

[–] [email protected] 14 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Don't know why people keep asking this. It's a simple answer: the network affect. People are there because people are there.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 month ago

Exactly, Twitter still has over 200 million DAU. Thread has about 30 million, Bluesky has less. Mastodon is worse.

Things like my city’s metro communication is still on Twitter. People aren’t going leave anytime soon.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 month ago

Exactly. So if people stop going there, then there is no reason to go there. Full circle, people go there because they go there. Let's just stop fucking doing that.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I remember when people called him a beacon of free speech.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 1 month ago

He is a bacon of freeze peach

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 month ago

You misheard, they said "beacon of Fire Speech". They burn books in that gathering of failed, divorced, didn't even peak in high school but still peaked in high school chuds.
