How do I sub to that? It says view on lemmy.world but won’t let me switch over.
Beehaw defederated from lemmy.world (and sh.itjust.works) long ago.
Ohhh totally forgot about that. Apparently they wanted to do their own thing or something. Doesn't make sense to me. I'm on lemm.ee so I can sub though
They couldn't handle the influx of users from new instances with open registration as they only had 4 admins.
What do you mean? I just subscribed using the above link from the Eternity Android app.
The defederation is one-way; lemmy.world isn't defederating beehaw.org. lemmy.world users can still see the community, and even still post to it (I assume, not sure if lemmy.world took changes to stop that but, as you can see it even has posts from local lemmy.world users as of 2 months ago, but the last content from anyone outside the instance is 7 months old). However, they will never make it to beehaw.org and thus won't be federated anywhere else (only users on lemmy.world would ever see it).
TIL, thanks!
I mean this. . I just checked and do see a post from 4 days ago so maybe they recently reversed it?
Edit: nope
So you can "subscribe" and maybe even comment but no one on beehaw will see it. I see now that one new post I saw was from someone on my instance.
They’re both usually shitty food porn, but at least the shitty community is self-aware.
Or it's just generic ass pizza.
God i hate that these things are called -porn like on reddit. At least there it was because of the le epic narwhal bacon times. Here it's just cringe.
You're more than welcome to post on shitty food porn. There's not a lot of activity and the votes will let you know if it's the right place (I don't remove posts unless they're breaking rules). It kind of has two interpretations - pictures of shitty food (self explanatory) or food porn that's shitty (ie bad lighting, bad presentation, etc).
Or let me know if you start an "average food porn" community and I'm more than happy to link it in the sidebar of SFP.
Needs to be foodgw.
Every food "appreciation" group always devolves into burgers, fries, English breakfasts, pizzas and steaks - usually the most pedestrian LCD versions thereof.
I know it's not fair to point at one particular post, but the one that made me decide to back away from food communities was that somebody had simply made a hamburger and it got front paged on Reddit.
All they had done was slice of brioche bun in half (poor choice), sliced it improperly so the top was like an axe head, toasted it on the grill but such that it was 50% saturated in grease like a sponge. They had used processed melting sandwich slices (not cheese) that was burned black on two corners. The lettuce was a jagged square they cut with a metal knife so the edges were orange and oxidized. Out-of-gamut mustard and ketchup dripping down that appeared to be dollar store preparations. Proudly perched on a grease-spotted plate alongside frozen, inconsistently-baked bag fries.
Reddit had TodayIAte
Hopefully there’s an equivalent here.
Reddit also has DecentFoodPorn
Be the change you want to see, etc..
50/50 food porn?
