From the archives. Jesus what a grim fucking comic, great contrast between the subject and the cutesy style, which I guess is what made me go "heh, holy shit"

Interesting read

TLDR: "ignorance is bliss"

[–] [email protected] 25 points 10 months ago (3 children)

I am heavily fucked up inside therefore i must be an intelligent

[–] [email protected] 10 points 10 months ago

You know what? Fuck it.

Uncauses your correlation

Post hoc ergo propter hoc in the house

You need to actually have nuts before you can say that

[–] [email protected] 18 points 10 months ago (1 children)

This article speaks to me.

[–] [email protected] 29 points 10 months ago (3 children)

It speaks to everyone. "I'm messed up because I'm smarter than other people" is a seductive fantasy.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 10 months ago (1 children)

I clicked into the article wondering how they measured intelligence, and they polled people from Mensa. What a fucking joke.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 10 months ago (1 children)

lmao right? Mensa members are allegedly smart and yet they pay money to be in the special club of the smartest of everyone look at me

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

High intelligence, low wisdom.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago (2 children)

Low wisdom simply because they're part of a club? 🤔

Sounds like you all are the ones who lack wisdom

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago (1 children)

They care more about appearing smart to others to feel better about themselves, seems like low wisdom to me. High wisdom is realising that all that posturing makes no sense.

The way I see it, they are no different from people who spend money to show off and appear even richer than they actually are; posting pictures of themselves in fancy card, private jets, and other things like that. There are many deca-millionaires and billionaires who buy bigger and bigger yachts and jets for that posturing, even modifying their yacht to be longer so it will be registered as a longer yacht even though it's the same useable space...

IQ test isn't nearly as valuable as they make it to be in reality, and I guarantee that many of that club's members prepared and trained specifically for that test, which makes them appear smarter than they actually are to the people who care about IQ scores. Moreover, this gives them the incentive to believe that IQ scores matter a lot more, because it inflates their self-worth.

Nah. You automatically made huge assumptions about the people who joined that group with no understanding of who they are or what they actually stand for because you never researched it or even cared to Google it. And you did that because you, as an anti-intellectual, are one of those people who talk shit about people more intelligent than you to make yourself sound smart.

Did you know 12% of them are Zoomers, for instance? As in teens? Did you even consider some of them would be kids or teens or did that just slip your mind in the middle of you taking out your anger, jealousy and inadequacies on them?

But as usual, as some dumbass anti-intellectualist bigot, you project your own flaws and failings onto a group you want to marginalize to make yourself feel better.

Shut the fuck up and go crack open a book, you worthless, arrogant, vapid, vicious little clod.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Because they're part of a paid club, I guess

[–] [email protected] 2 points 10 months ago (1 children)

And you're so much better than them because you're not 🤷

It couldn't possibly be you're the one actually acting that way

You're the stupid, oversensitive failure with the inferiority complex taking out your emotions on innocent people who have literally done nothing to you but of course you're the victim here and not them

[–] [email protected] 0 points 10 months ago

I don't know much about the club and was not expressing my opinion on them (because I have none). I just guessed what whas is the reason someone picked on them

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

being smart is less fun than people think tbh, being twice exceptional is even less fun

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

Well, I know I am far smarter than a few family members. My brother told me he would never get vaccinated for covid, because it has cancer in it, which is not true.

Overall I would say I am average, or slightly above average iq. Not saying I am a genius.

very depressed and still get the best grades in my class at "profession school", can confirm.

[–] [email protected] 32 points 10 months ago* (last edited 10 months ago) (1 children)

A little dark for a chuesday, innit?

[–] [email protected] 7 points 10 months ago (2 children)

I have absolutely no idea what a "chutes day" is 😅 but I'm a dirty foreigner with a native language that's not even in the same family as English, please have mercy

[–] [email protected] 7 points 10 months ago

It was an autocorrect fail.

"chuesday" and "innit" are just poking fun at a particular English accent.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

a lot of brits pronounce the "tu" at the beginning of words like "chu"

[–] [email protected] 27 points 10 months ago (1 children)

So to any young kids who get into this "I am intelligent therefore depressed."

I've been there and what I've found is that if you are like how I was. I falsely correlated analysis of the universe and the discovery of it's harshness with how I was feeling and probably erroneously ignored my bias (because I was depressed) to focus on negative realizations.

It was my caustic family environment, my lack of individual freedom, poor sleep, poor diet that was making me miserable.

If you're feeling this way you need to look into Mindfulness and why existence even in its brutally bleak appearance can be an enjoyable quiet morning listening to crickets as you wake up, or being aware of noisy air vent that sounds interesting, or even the curiosities of your own wandering mind.

Our experience of existence is relative to our framing. Emotional intelligence is learning to side step the current and enjoy observing the river.

otoh depressive realism is a thing.

For example about a trillion probable sentients are killed every year mostly for pleasure and if you can contextualise numbers at all that rends your heart.

Futurama taught me you should only give the monkey moderate intelligent serum if you want it to be happy
