A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Please don't post about US Politics.
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, and toxicity are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either [email protected] or [email protected].
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email [email protected]. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

I don't see it in the German communities I'm in. Sometimes someone would ask for a translation of a meme or so, but that's pretty rare.
I wish the language settings were used more. My app of choice (Voyager) doesn't even let me select the language when I post. I think if a community had a default language and that were automatically selected when posting and commenting that would be great.
That's the issue
Lots of non-English communities leave default/English checked. Either accidentally, or to be inclusive because they won't delete posts in English
The result is English speakers browsing "all" get a bunch of non-english posts.
I just block all the foreign language subs like that, but I'm sure some people just downvote when they see them.
But the overall problem, is theyre not setting their language settings correctly
Definitely. Both users and mods. If they would, there wouldn't be any issue.
By the way, beside ich_iel, which relax, laid back german community shall I follow to not forget the few German I know. All I do at the moment is listening once a month to DW Langsam gesprochene nachricten which isn't enough to stay fluent.
If you hope to keep your german up to date, I strongly advise you to stay away from ich_iel. The sub is essentially all about literal and deliberately wrong translation memes.
Try [email protected], it’s a general news and conversational community, without the forced translation nonsense
Ja, bleib da bloß weg. Die ham' alle 'nen Hau.
