Doesn’t sound like they were saying they hate the US at all, just the US’ public transport infrastructure or lack thereof and the fighting that occurs on it

Let me edit that to say public transport infrastructure then
Or maybe strike the part where you said „hate“ because you made that up, and instead add the opium epidemic, homelessness crisis, and rampant gun violence, which all contribute to the issue that public transport is much less pleasant than in other places.
I'm not sure I've heard of gun violence being a big thing on public transport.
