Not an American, did they exonerate everybody when they made it legal or are they're people in jail now for smoking weed in places where you can smoke weed now? Coz that seems even worse right
Weed is still illegal everywhere in the US. A few states though have said they would stop enforcing it and so far the federal government had turned a blind eye to it.
Which is why in "legal" states, weed dispensaries often have major trouble with finding banks and card processors that are willing to work with them.
I think in "legal" states though some people who were in with state charges got released? Maybe?
A "few"??
Twenty-Four states have legalized recreational. 24/50...PLUS the nations capitol.
Another 15 have medical.
And out of remaining, some of them have decriminalized it to a small offence.
There are only FOUR states left where weed is 100% illegal.
States don't have the right to legalize cannabis as long as it's still illegal federally. It's just that the federal government has decided to no longer enforce cannabis prohibition, but the state laws contradicting it are still illegal.
Weed isn't legal in the US, just decriminalized federally and across a few different states. The answer to your question is "it depends"
