As a kid I hated veggies but as I got older I really enjoy some veggies, especially broccoli, roasted in a drizzle of olive oil and a little seasoning.

As an American, I also used to abhor vegemite when I tried it until I learned how to properly spread it on toast during my visit over there and I’m obsessed now!

What did you hate, but gave a second chance to? I’d love to try some new stuff!

To me it is chess. I know how the piece move but that is it.

I’ve been bitten by a horse, snake (twice, years apart), cat, red back spider, dog (twice, weeks apart). What’s your count?

My daughter is 14, but I'm sure answers for kids younger or older can apply.

What are your favorite women's style instructional videos for hair & makeup? My inimitable partner has quietly expressed her lack of knowledge, though she feels her techniques are great as they are, and is looking for new things to try out. How do I lovingly offer inspiration without suggesting a look/preference(bias)?

Also, if it helpful: she's an incredibly kind, intelligent, capable, and vivacious redhead (N. Irish) with a talented updo & minimal makeup.

I have quit ranked/competitive gaming and do only casual gaming whenever I get some interest. Honestly I was happy that I've quit gaming as a whole because it was a real addiction. Countless number of times I have uninstalled games only to get so tempted that I would download them again despite them taking 1hr to install.

From that kind of situation to come to this situation where I only play whenever I want to, is a great progress I felt I have made. I have got lots of time on me as expected, but I don't spend it wisely and infact in more "brain-off" fashion eg scrolling, chatting on discord, youtube etc.

Now I feel whenever I come across anything that needs my brain to be spent upon, I feel so reluctant to do high brain activity. I feel there's lot more difficulty concentrating and being patient with my task.

Is this because I have quit gaming? (sounds crazy I know) that my brain has become rather less active than usual?

I recently come across a random study on surgeons that game a bit during the week are doing better at their job than the ones who don't game. Not sure how of it is true but I sure have come across concepts like gaming keeps your brain active and make you perform.

Take this entire assumption as a grain of salt because I haven't done any huge experiments nor do I have any conclusive evidence but a small hunch that I just came across. I just wanted to know your experiences after you quit gaming.

Trump has stated he will cut American aid to Ukraine, which makes a majority of total aid. Recently Zelensky stated that if Ukraine's only hope for sovereignty is its own nuclear arsenal, they will build it.

I’m an earl grey with honey man, but if I’m being honest, I’ve never really tried much else.

Or maybe you still love it, but now you have a different perspective.

Throughout my time using Lemmy, I have learned about the populations of a bunch of different instances and have made accounts on several different ones based on what I find. However, I’m about to make a Matrix account and this is a whole new ball game. Which server should I choose/avoid making my account on? Does it really matter as much as it does on Lemmy?

Do you source them yourself or go to a mechanic?

My OpinionI've been a bit confused why I see videos with that gesture censored, I feel like that rarely happened in the media I consumed a decade ago. However, I believe this "phenomenon" is older than TikTok and its weird censorship.

I'd place giving the finger at a high 2, low 3 on offensiveness, definitely nowhere near gesticulated sexual acts. You can give a child shit for using it, but the occasional finger is something I'd expect from even a teenager.

I heard about a lot of companies who hire women specifically so they can pay them less.

That make me wonder, in a perfect world where there is no pay gap, what would be the effect on woman employment rate.

Would companies hire equal percentage of workers from both genders or would something else happen?

The song, that's free to use for YouTube videos, sounds like a jazz song and it's in the key B-flat minor (I am a music composition specialist, and by hearing it I knew its key). It begins with a guitar loop. Last time I heard it was in 2021 or so, but I still remember how it sounded like. I think that it wasn't from YouTube audio library either.

My daughter is 5 now. She's discovered the joy of telling jokes. Unfortunately, her repertoire is painfully small. I've also realised most of my jokes are either not age appropriate or too situational.

What are best/worst kids jokes? Extra points for any that would make her teacher groan. Apparently she LOVES jokes. 😁

What is it? Is it tough to care for?

I still mask, I think COVID is super serious and I work with immunocompromised patients in a hospital, and I take public transit, so it's just generally a good idea. I am very, very, very vaccinated, but I'm still not comfortable unmasked. Two angry men on separate occasions have made comments to me about masking and how I don't need to do it. I just stare right through them and ignore, but why are they so angry? It does not affect them in the slightest, and if they think I'm stupid have at it.
