Oceans 11, I can watch that when I'm happy, sad, sick, or just on in the background. The perfect heist movie

oh my god, what a snowflake mod. Not even a real reason, I have banned people from my instance. Reason? Racism. Homophobia. Transphobia. Never "republican".

What's weird is I have definitely been very liberal over there, I am somewhat active in [email protected] and have never seen anything. Do the admins just have one snowflake mod?

I'm sure they're shaking in their boots from the prospect of a 10 million dollar fine.

Same. I forget what I was reading/watching, but it's a shame that they build these gorgeous worlds just to put an assassin's creed game into. Odyseey and Valhalla were both gorgeous, then they fill it with fetch quests and tedium. I don't understand why they don't just build worlds, and let smaller studios fill them out. They could do a base assassin's creed, but think of how many other stories could have been told with the sheer size of Odyssey

Assassin's creed Valhalla.

I had done the same thing for about 60 hours, and when I finally thought I was done with the monotony I was transported to 2 new locations that required me to do around and do boring fetch quests. I just never went back to it, and that was... 2 years ago? Still installed, just don't care.

Story was fine but there was so much boredom between actual story that what was the point.

That's what annoyed me about minio. Started super crazy simple to set up, but I missed two updates and came back to AWS levels of mandatory configuration. Ffs I chose you because you were simple, not because I needed to replace s3

I haven't been there in over a year now, but it sounds about the same as it was then.

Here on Lemmy we just defederate with horrible instances and start our own communities!

I don't care for google's latest tech pet project. I would downvote it on reddit or here. It's not revolutionary tech, and knowing Google they'll decommission it in 2 years anyway. So, I downvote.

I up vote things I find interesting. This is not one of those things.

Looking at your past posts you have a lot of good ones, the elastic one is really interesting. Idk why you're upset about one dude, overall your posts have been good. Don't let one unpopular post rile you up.

I'm pretty sure I saw a documentary about doing this exact thing back in 2003....

I see 10,000 forks in the near future, and fully decentralized ways of hosting them. God forbid we actually try to regulate real guns, no it's those damn hobbyists who spent thousands on printers!

Every day, we work to make our platform the best it can be, which includes regularly revisiting our terms and policies (also known as our House Rules) to make sure they meet the needs of our growing community and allow us to continue to support you. Today, we’re sharing a few updates that go into effect on September 15, 2024.

We’ve made some changes to our dispute resolution clause (section 11) for users in North and South America, with updates to our arbitration procedures for smaller matters and for coordinated or “mass” arbitrations (with 25 or more claimants). We have also updated the choice of law that’s applicable to the Terms. As before, the arbitration agreement includes a class action and jury waiver, which means we’ll be resolving most disputes in private, individual arbitration, and not in court. Please read this section carefully. We’ve added which entity acts as the merchant of record, depending on a buyer’s currency and location of your payment instrument.

So, if you're upset at all you can't sue, you can't go to the courts, you have to sit in a an arbitration with someone we choose who (trust us) won't be biased.

To add in, an annoyance for sure:

Effective July 29, our Adult Nudity and Sexual Content Policy introduces more rigorous guidelines regarding our prohibitions of nude or sexual content, as well as how to appropriately list certain mature content.

I'm an ex incel myself, but I've been seeing a few users here exhibiting the tell tale signs. "I'm not attractive enough", "I don't socialize correctly", "I'll never find a woman" - all extremely unhealthy attitudes.

Personally I burned through many friendships and ruined a lot of chances with women because I was in the incel community. The community warped my view of women so much that I made it even harder to meet women, I became my own worst enemy. I lost friends because all I could think of was how horrible it was that they had girlfriends.

I have a friend who helped me out of it. She was the one who started calling out my bad behavior for what it was, and I started on the long uphill path out of it. I'm now married and stable for well over a decade, but I still think back to those days, and it depresses me seeing other people causing this themselves and not being aware of it.

So, Lemmy, for those who have clawed out of it, what's your story?

Not that I use them anymore anyway, cancelling my old account, but name and shame any companies who conveniently can't support their free base. Also - it's VNC. It's a protocol. There's a dozen free clients out there.

Interesting problem here. So I self host jellyfin, happy to share my (owned) movies with my family. Well, my mother has asked me to digitize her collection too and have me host it. Originally, fine, you give your movies to me, I host them, same thing.

However, what I didn't bet on was the amount of garbage, terrible movies she would give me. There's a few that are fine, but the vast majority are, well I'll just put it bluntly, christian propaganda. I don't think any of them are as terrible as some of the worst case, but think "My life was horrible until I found god now look and see how fulfilled I am" type propaganda - and they make for horrible plots. Left Behind with Kirk Cameron is a good example. Even removing the blatent boring christian plots - it's just a horribly made movie. Cheap, not thought out well, and honestly I read the book decades ago, it's a horrible adaptation too.

Not that I keep only top tier movies in my libraries, but these are, well they just bring a pit to my stomach.

What would you do in my situation? (And I'm going to go ahead and say the pure atheist comments aren't needed, yes of course I could burn them, or dance around them, but I'm not looking to just burn the bridge between my mother and myself over a lifetime of her indoctrination and bad taste in movies). I'm more looking for generic, how do you handle your users asking you to put content you don't find appealing on your server?

Hey all, I'm looking to build a couple dashboards out around my house. I've done this before with rokchip boards and they are... fine, but not great. Is rpi the best option right now? Are there alternatives you really like? I'd like to keep it a single board to easily mount behind things where it doesn't take up a lot of space, and I won't lie I like the DIY feeling of it over something like a thin client.

Image Caption: Screenshot of an email from Meta with a subject of "Important Notices coming to your account". The body of the email is blank.

Less annoying, more terrible QA processes over at Meta.

Checked the source of the email and says they're deactivating my account because I never made it a meta account. Oh no.

Hi all, looking for some help with the Jellyfin Media Player.

For background, I've used Plex for years, and I've had it working well. I'm trying out Jellyfin because of all of the reasons you're already thinking of.

One issue I'm having - I like uncompressed 4K HDR. I'm trying to play a large movie, one Plex direct plays perfectly fine to my HTPC. (2.5GB networking through and through, direct access, all the basics have checked). However Jellyfin Media Player seems to stutter and drop frames.

Not like "It stops and buffers", but more like playing a video game and it drops down to 15fps. Is there a setting somewhere I'm missing to enable GPU support or something? I toggled OpenGL on and off and it didn't seem to have an effect.

Video says it's direct play, no transcode. Not sure what else it could be beyond hardware acceleration?

Thanks!
