There was a brief period between now and the invention of photography when that was true. For thousands of years before that it was possible to create a visual representation of anything you imagine without any hint that it wasn't something real. Makes me wonder if there were similar controversies about drawings or paintings.
Nudity shouldn't be considered sexual.
"Paying" for tax cuts makes sense in the context of changing budgets while trying to keep them balanced. But no money is ever spent on tax cuts. It's spent on the public infrastructure and services you mentioned. If you properly account for the money as being used to pay for public goods, then saying it's also used to pay for tax cuts would be double counting.
Yeah, I'm at the point where I view all storage as temporary, just on different time scales. Storing anything indefinitely requires ongoing maintenance to replace degraded media with fresh media.
This whole thread is a great example of why I'm continually disappointed with Lemmy. Half the comments are just some variation of "capitalism bad". I hate capitalism as much as the next guy, but it sure would be nice if people would stop grinding their axes for a few minutes to talk about the actual subject of the post. Or just not comment at all if they don't have anything relevant to say.
But if this community community isn't flooded with tech business articles, where are people going to post insightful comments like "fuck Google" and "switch to Firefox"?
I'd be a lot less bothered if the UI for services like Sony didn't use words like "buy" to describe what customers are doing when they pay for content. It would be a lot more honest to describe it as a rental for an indefinite time period. But of course then very few people would choose that option.
When people say "nobody wants to work", what they mean is nobody wants to work for them. People will work for themselves, for people they care about, or even humanity in general, but I think it's fair to say nobody ever wanted to work just to make money for someone else.
The title is a reference to Rogue One.
More like suing them for listing the number of a well known criminal enterprise in the business listings. That sounds crazy until you remember successful criminal enterprises manage to avoid criminal prosecution, so legally speaking, they're just businesses with a reputation for being shady, which I think is a pretty good analogy to sites like Pirate Bay. Just as you wouldn't sue a phone company for ignoring rumors, you shouldn't sue a DNS service either, because you'd be demanding they censor their service based on rumors, and nobody in their right mind wants that.
