Nothing stopping meta from adjusting or hiding the vote count later. Hundreds of ways to fiddle with that thing, some really subtle and would not generate drama.

I’m pretty sure the current reason to remove the fact checking is so the company is not put on a collision course with government, a government that will lie so much daily it will break all records.

So, just because they can alter the community notes does not mean they will

25 years ago I noticed the trend in the movies in the theater, and realized the USA was becoming fascist. I was sad, but surprised later at how long it took. I rather thought it would be faster and more dramatic, and not this creeping sorry mediocrity seen later in politics

I think this is like a parallel situation as seen in the Reddit ceo driving migration to lemmy.

The wp meltdown was destructive and healthy at the same time. A minority of wp users will look into alternatives, which will help make those better to use because the devs get more support, and/or the alternative communities and ecosystems start to grow
