For context, there's a lot that goes on behind the scenes when it comes to lemmy admin stuff especially in the matrix channels. There is a significant frustration and lack of confidence in the lemmy developers at this point. Even those who try to contribute to the project get eventually feeling pushed out.
gabe
Welcome to the hell of being a lemmy admin. There's a reason why lemmy admins are fed up with the developers.
For the most part, it should be. Will it? Time will tell. A lot of people are actively hostile to the idea of federation, even on lemmy. It's very "complicated" for a lot of non-techy people to grapple with, but unfortunately as more and more centralized platforms implode its just going to have to become a new normal out of necessity regardless.
It hurts itself in confusion
Ugh. What the fuck
https://lemmyverse.net is a good place to find more communities as well as the new communities community as mentioned. I'll also add [email protected] is good as well :)
The subreddit is filled to the brim with such abhorrent people I'm kinda shocked they haven't been forced to take action against it.
They are deeply threatened by it and are desperate to capitalize off xitters failing. Mark is probably enraged that he can’t just buy up the company and snuff it out.
I think it’s inevitable that if they aren’t going to use a blocklist (which they are probably too stupid to consider doing) they will likely end up in legal hot water for having the site become a war zone of alt-fedi instances harassing celebrities and random people off threads. I do not see how them federating will go well, at all.
They setting themselves up for a major GDPR suit, as well other lawsuits for violating privacy policies of other services that never opted in.
I wonder if there’s a way to fuck with the info that is sent to Facebook in some way from instances, kind of like an obfuscation method. So instead of us defederating, we force them to due to spamming their fetched content with nonsense.
Damn more echoes of Xitter, this is almost exactly what they did as well lmao
Chill with the FUD. As a web host there have been far more cases of random web hosts doors being busted down by the feds for hosting copyrighted material than CSAM they had no reasonable knowledge of.
Reading, discord, mastodon, crocheting are my main things at this point. Lemmy occasionally.
