Did you see Paddington 1+2? I had the same feeling about those two. Absolutely fantastic movies with a lot of soul.
I'll have to check out Puss in Boots if it's similar.
I also love my Kobo. I've heard you can unlock it and flash a community supported OS, which might be another true benefit over Kindle depending on your needs.

I got a Garmin fitness tracker. I really wanted a smart watch, but don't want to have to charge it all the time.
I got the Instinct, and ended up turning the notifications off right away - i just wanted to see the stats on my sleep and step count. It also encouraged me to start running and exercising more.
I was once like that. I thought running was such a boring hobby. I stuck to it though, and it quickly became a hobby for me that I miss when I don't or can't do it.
I do 20-35km per week, including a half marathon (organized or self induced) once per month. Previous to last year, I didn't exercise or go to the gym.

If you have older family members, you could try just installing Firefox for them and tell them it's their internet now. This worked for me parents.
I still have my note 9 in a drawer but moved on to a nest phone because the display started having issues, where it would get a green haze and slowly freeze and become unresponsive.
Favorite phone though, also perfect size.
I left Canada when the politics started to mirror that of America's. Went to Europe, and while there are a lot of problems here as well (an increasing amount to boot), I'm happier overall.
