Taiwan's Criminal Police Bureau recently busted three individuals promoting unlock instructions for these apps to roughly 400,000 users. Surprisingly, this tech-savvy scheme was orchestrated by a group whose combined age totals 215 years.

That is a terrible idea. The basic privacy advice is to use end to end encryption wherever possible.

Gonna get a lot of hate for this but if it's just a laptop then you'll have a lot more benefit to journalists/activists if you do a tor exit node. Or tor relay node. Or just an i2p node.
