Next year a vast amount of laptops will now sell without a webcam. Laptop manufacturers are creaming their pants at the thought of saving themselves money and profiting more.
I'm so glad this feature is coming. My only concern is that I use my phone while I'm using my webcam.
I suppose that's why things like Phone Link on Windows is a thing. You can continue to use parts of your phone while it's being used as a webcam.

Well I mean you can disable battery optimizations easily on Pixel. Not really Google's fault for what other OEMs do.
In fact, apps that require running in the background will ask if they can disable battery optimization on first launch, and all you have to do is tap "yes".

This company can't stop starting new projects and putting their current ones on the back burner. Their services are all spread out between multiple operating systems. Want proton drive app? Better use Windows. Want the new proton mail app? Better use iOS. Want anything? Better not use Linux.
