Part of the reason I went to school for computer engineering is just so when people try to argue stupid bullshit like leaving your router plugged in will start a fire, hopefully they'll recognize that im qualified enough to know better and fuck off.

Everything is expensive and everyone's underemployed thanks to all the damage large corporations have done to the job market and the economy as a whole.

I just want to make almost as much money as I made as a shift manager in fast food 10 years ago, which is a job I ironically walked away from to get educated. I just hope the democrats win so they can maybe reverse some of that anti homelessness stuff because we're all going to need it.

I'm OK with actual honest to goodness videos on lemmy generally. It's those fucking gifs that drive me up the fucking wall. Gifs should be banned from lemmy, they're so heavily abused. 3 out of 4 "video" posts is actually just a 100mb+ gif. Use any fucking thing other than gifs. Fuck gifs. If I had a time machine I would go back in time just to prevent gifs from getting invented just so people would stop posting 1 minute long gifs all over lemmy. In fact, maybe I should plot and scheme to sneak the removal of gif support from the lemmy software git repo somehow the same way hackers got that ssh virus in.

Fuck gifs. Everyone needs to stop choosing to use them instead of any other format. Literally anything else would be better. Even drawing a representation of what happened in crayon would be better than posting a gif. If videos are too complicated to figure out you need to be posting a picture or maybe just go outside. Fuck.

At least they're not chic fil a. Imagine the same scummy business practices except they also apply "Christian values" to everything.

I just want computer parts to stop being so expensive. Remember when gaming was cheap? Pepperidge farm remembers. You used to be able to build a relatively high end pc for less than the average dogshit Walmart laptop.

Honestly, if this somehow results in regulators being like "fuck it, piracy is legal now" it won't negatively impact me in any way..

Corporations have abused copyright law for decades, they've ruined the internet, they've ruined media, they've ruined video games. I want them to lose more than anything else.

The shitty and likely situation is they'll be like "fuck it corporate piracy is legal but individuals doing it is still a crime".

That's why you connect an arduino to the motherboards reset pin and load it with a program where it resets the system if it doesn't receive an ACK signal over the usb connection every 10 minutes.

Eventually though the networking and apache stops working after around 150 days so you also have to make a script that resets the system after 30 minutes of not having network.

What if we switch to electric numbers?

I sprinkle helium 3 on my breakfast cereal every morning. Sure, it's wasteful but don't tell me how to live my life.

I have a php webpage with a search bar that uses php code to search my server for files. It's really slow. It's a custom made thing I came up with years ago.

Are there any standalone python or c++ projects or libraries I can use that handle file searching? Plugging in a more optimal search function into this system would be a massive improvement but I can't really replace this with a different system because reasons. If the only way to get such a feature is if I program it myself, then I'll have to do that as it will be less work than migrating to a new system. But I'm pretty sure there exists something I could use to manage the search so I can shoehorn that in to the codebase instead of starting from scratch. Any suggestions?

Tl;dr I'm looking for a command line search program that runs on Linux and has some form of indexing.

Am I missing something? The article seems to suggest it works via hidden text characters. Has OpenAI never heard of pasting text into a utf8 notepad before?

This is killing me. Videos that are gigabytes in size instead of a couple hundred mb. I don't have the storage space for this. I don't have the bandwidth for this. More and more content creators are using 4k video instead of 1080p. Is there an easy way to make it only download videos in 1080p? I've found a few commands around the internet that don't work, presumably they work on some videos sometimes but that's just not good enough.

I download videos from a custom made web interface connected to yt-dlp so if it's no longer going to be possible to automate the process of video and playlist downloading then everything is going to become a huge pain in the ass.
