That and sync. I wanna keep track of what I read already. Add to that functionality for saving favorites etc and you got a much better package overall.

JetBrains comes to mind as one of the fairest subscription services I know. It also get cheaper the longer you’re subscribed, incentivizing you to to stay subscribed. It’s both smart and user friendly.

The worst one is probably Adobe.

Every service they offer is offered elsewhere by less evil companies.

And with other companies you usually don't have to be worried, they will suddenly discontinue the service after running it half-assed in the first place.

You’re joking but that’s possibly how this is gonna be monitized in the future. In the end it might just look like current day news articles with ads interspliced throughout.

I never understood why „video-podcasts“ never cought on. Everybody would host their own videos or provides peer-to-peer links and it can be presented basically like a YouTube feed in compatible apps.

As a cherry on top, a compatible app could also support YouTube and download videos from there liked piped or invidious.

No friends there either.

Well to be fair I'm still enjoying Mastodon a lot and Pixelfed too (which is the better Instagram replacement) but pretty much everyone I follow is somebody I don't know in real life. Instagram is great to see what your extended circle of friends is doing.

Eh, I‘d do it if it meant the services respected privacy and actually put the users first.

Paying for what these big services currently are? Hell no.

I wasn’t looking into paying for it. This popped up upon opening the app.

Two main reasons I think:

  • it’s easier to make a big phone as there’s more space for all the components
  • the average consumer doesn’t use computers as much anymore, so people start using their phone for all kinds of things where they benefit from the bigger screen

But how would I flex my wealth to the peasants then? /s

That sounds horrible. What about this stupid standard takes this fucking long? Is it not improvable by current tech?

I absolutely agree. For me the most lacking part is media creation software. Neither Adobe nor Affinity apps are available and no, GIMP is not a Photoshop replacement despite many users claiming it. The non-destructive workflow is severely lacking.
