Did they make them switch the MacBook to USB-C? Did they make them switch the iPad to USB-C?
USC-C spec was finalized about two years after they made the switch to Lightning. The first smartphone with USB-C came 6 months after that finalization. Apple wanted to get rid the 30 pin and felt the uncertainty around USB-C timeline was too high, so they rolled their own.
If they switched to USB-C for phones just 2-3 years after Lightning it would’ve been a terrible experience for iPhone users.
It’s amazing how in a story about Microsoft letting customers down, people feel compelled to make up bullshit about Apple.

I interviewed at Microsoft decades ago and found a bug in notepad during my interview when they gave me a laptop and asked me how I would test notepad.
Their faces indicated that this was not supposed to be a productive exercise.
A web browser is not a word processor no matter how much they tart it up. If the thing isn’t saving a file to my local drive that is in a common format It’s not worth putting your effort into.

Honestly it’s a brilliant strategy for a shitty situation. After this phase, if they somehow don’t get permission to complete the line, they would never have gotten rail built between the cities anyway.
The problem with slaughter bots is that the chain of command to kill can be shortened to just one person.
The chain of command for a human is much more complex and can have a moral circuit breaker in every part of that chain.
