I have such a hard time accepting that this isn't something almost everyone knows. It's such basic knowledge, it's taught in schools and mentioned often enough in any kind of media etc. Seeing this thread is like finding out people don't know that fries are made of potatoes.

Even people you'd really expect to use adblockers. A good example is right here on Lemmy, people here are generally pretty tech-savvy yet you get threads with lots of people complaining about ads. This has been a weird lesson as I get older, seeing that most people somehow don't even think about lifting a finger to fix things they see as problems, they really just complain and then do absolutely nothing to help themselves. It's the same with if someone mentions something they don't know what it is, instead of taking 5 seconds to just look it up they comment to ask about it and then never reply to people answering their question. I'm certain that it's very common to have some weird need to make others do work for you, they don't actually care about finding out what something is or how to do something to fix a problem, they just care about making others spend any kind of effort for them.
Did you have a stroke while writing that?
And it'll tell you it can't respond to that because of its rules (censorship) and then say that using glue is a good way to off yourself.
I'm an older millennial who generally dislikes new words like that but this is the one that I fully accept. It's just a good word, you don't need any prior knowledge the understand it either, it just works.
Cool, but do you realize this isn't your personal website where everything is posted specifically for you?
It definitely applies to most Americans here too. Almost anything that's exclusively US is posted like nothing else exists. Both thread and comments are written like they aren't aware the rest of the world exists. It's VERY prevalent here just like anywhere else online, and it's infuriating for everyone outside the US.
I still want one
They really did a good job of brainwashing you, and many others.
It's far from the best or even one of the best, objectively. It's not even close to the top.
In my experience the opposite happens more often, you expect at least some major news but nothing of note happened and you have no notifications from people trying to get ahold of you etc. so you just feel weirdly empty because you spend so much time and effort keeping up with the world, friends and family normally.
It doesn't help that the best looks like a dick and balls.
