Ah I wasnt not aware, the link provided by @anamethatisnt, seems to have cleared this up too!

Right so it is owned by Defense Information Systems Agency... thats... scary...

Recently discovered the following two addresses in my DNS-filter, 26.26.26.1 and 26.26.26.2. How can I confirm that these belong to? These are both public-ip addresses but seems to be owned by the US Military?

If I look at https://www.abuseipdb.com/check/26.26.26.2, it says it belongs to:

  • ISP: DoD Network Information Center
  • Type: Military
  • Country: US.

What does this mean? As far as I've researched, its got something to do with Socks protocol? This Github repo I found seems to be using it too, but why is it used? If anyone knows, id very much appreciate your help.

https://github.com/PeterCxy/SocksDroid/blob/master/app/src/main/groovy/net/typeblog/socks/SocksVpnService.groovy

edit1: formatting

edit2: Found an additional GH Repo that use the same IP addresses for something called V2RayVPNService: https://github.com/2dust/v2rayNG/blob/master/V2rayNG/app/src/main/kotlin/com/v2ray/ang/service/V2RayVpnService.kt

edit3: This blogpost explains it quite well. https://blog.erratasec.com/2013/12/dod-address-space-its-not-conspiracy.html

The reason all these address spaces are DoD is because that's really the only source of unused IPv4 addresses left. All IPv4 address ranges have been assigned. But, the DoD has been assigned 20% of the IPv4 address space, but most of it is used within the DoD, on their own private networks, and is not routable to the outside world. Thus, if you are looking for a large chunk of "private" addresses that won't suddenly one day be assigned to Akamai or Amazon (and thus, explode in your face), then DoD addresses are the way to go.

Do you have a source in terms of the ISPs altering websites? Would love to mention that in my thesis.

njal.la is without a doubt one of the better ones if privacy is number one priority.

I second this, got the same setup and works wonders!

Hiya, I'm trying to install KDE Initiary as I'll be travelling soon. Heard this was a good travel planner on the Late Night Linux Podcast, however when I try to install the app I get the message as seen in the picture. Anyone got any idea of how I could this to work?

Edit:I am on GrapheneOS, but have tried to give Fdroid all permissions, but doesn't change anything.

Thanks 🙌

Don't know about this, have never done it myself - but i assume so?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Yes it does! It has also implemented DeArrow for better/normal video thumbnails and titles. Here is a pic of some of the settings >>

OP, treat yourself to using https://freetubeapp.io/ on desktop. It is in my opinion at least a much better experience than YT via web browser ever was.

Believe it got taken down a while a go, have not seen it up for a good couple of weeks myself.

There are quite a few choices of brands when it comes to purchasing harddisks or ssd, but which one do you find the most reliable one? Personally had great experiences with SeaGate, but heard ChrisTitus had the opposite experience with them.

So curious to what manufacturers people here swear to and why? Which ones do you have the worst experience with?

Hiya folks,

Was watching some videos today, and I am using Newpipe on mobile, Freetube on PC and SmartTube on TV. However, I have been curios about two things.

  1. Does the viewership count when using these services to the videos?
  2. Does the "subscribe" count increase when using these services? Or is it just purely local, the subscriptions i mean.

Hiya, I'm looking to keep track of my different services in hosting via Unraid. Right now I'm hosting roughly 12 different services, but would be nice to have the logs of all my services in one place, preferably with a nice GUI. Are there any such services that could easily connect to the different docker containers I have running?

Appreciate any suggestions 🙌

Hiya, just switched to GrapheneOS and am beyond happy with it, surpassed all my expectations. However I am on the hunt for a simple video editing app. AFAIK, Fossify gallery app doesn't let you edit videos, nor does the default one by Graphene, at least when I try, there is a message that says something a long the lines like "could not find the right app".

So either I'm doing something wrong or I need a video editing app, if the latter, hit me up with your recommendations 🤗

Hi there, I've had a broken phone lying around for ages, only kept it as I know there are some pictures and files I wish I could gain access to again. I've tried a variety of methods gaining access to the files, but it doesn't seem possible as I cannot actually use the screen to "allow usb transfer" etc.. Is there any methods I might have missed or something that could help me retrieve these files?

It's an Huawei Mate 10 Pro.

Any tips, tricks and recommendations are appreciated 🌻

Personally work in IT, mostly fixing server and infrastructure. Big fan of listening to ambiance music while working: the kind of music and sounds that make you forget that you're listening to it, to me, that's the perfect kind of working music. Otherwise I will listen to game and movie soundtracks from Lotr, Star Wars, Ghilbi, Harry Potter etc.. I used to be all into lofi, but need a break from it now.

Anyways, please share your favorite music to listen to while working, and let us know what you work as too! More fun to see how the profession match with music taste.

Have a nice rest of your day 🌻

I have to use certain Microsoft apps for work, so I strictly only use the web versions as I am on Linux. However, just seen this setting pop up in Word while working on a document. I wonder what in specific they would change, considering i am on Firefox. Does anyone know anything about this? Is there an actual good reason for me to allow this, and if did what would it change?

Hello fellow hosters,

I recently had to purchase a new laptop because my old laptop(MSI - PS63 Modern 8RC) had its hinges finally give in, so the screen(lid) can barely be opened and closed anymore. The laptop isn't totally outdated yet in terms of specs. I already have a server that hosts most of my day to day apps, but was wondering if anyone had any suggestions to what i could host on this retired laptop, that I would manage remotely.

Are there any specific services that makes more sense to host on a laptop that would be sitting turned on but put away somewhere? Or should I just tear the PC apart for it's parts and throw the rest away?

Let me know if you have any similar experiences or tips 🌻

Just bought a Pixel 7a (for Graphene OS), but looking for a good, solid phone case. What are some brands, that are worth buying from that are not cheap knock offs? Appreciate any tips
