But what is the prevalence of coercion in the industry? Is that known? Can it be known?

Most people I’ve heard speak about their experiences in the porn industry say this type of coercion is rare. GDP was a unique situation. Virtually everyone knew (or should have known) they were bad news for years before law enforcement got involved. I remember arguing with people about this. And actually one of the things people said was “who cares, this kind of thing is everywhere in the industry, they know what they’re getting into.” So I actually think that not only is there no evidence to support that, but this idea can even be harmful by painting the better behaved studios with a broad stroke, and giving the fewer bad actors cover to keep operating.

I think the best way to help sex workers, if this is something that concerns you, is to treat them with respect, call out the hateful stigma against their work, and support efforts to organize for worker protections. Despite the fact that most studios are not out there raping people left and right, like most industries, there is often a power imbalance between workers and owners and this sometimes leads to exploitation.

Twitter has millions of users. Not talking about its issues clearly won’t solve the problem.

Yeah Acela isn’t really true high speed rail though. Many sections are slower. Boston to DC would be workable with the right infrastructure. But coast to coast is over 3000 miles which is a whole different beast, barring some technological advancement.

Yeah I definitely support that model. I’m just not convinced very many people would want to go coast to coast by this method. It’s likely to be more expensive and slower.

I’m not sure any of these are quite as ambitious as crossing the entire continent of North America. In fact I’m not even sure that would make sense to do. That said lines connecting major cities on each coast and some parts of the Midwest would be a no-brainer.

If you’ve never worked with local governments, you may not realize how independent these departments can be. And also that the people who go into this line of work usually really want to help people. I can’t speak to the situation in LA directly but I seriously doubt they would be sharing their tools with the police unless there was political pressure to do so. Which I think is unlikely in LA.

Did you read it? It doesn’t explicitly answer my question.

But how are the carrot cells grown? Either using light or some kind of agricultural product I’m sure. There’s no such thing as a free lunch. Literally in this case.

Four deaths over two years seems very low… I hope they are applying the same level of scrutiny to cars as they are here.

Did Texas not experience blackouts? I thought I read that.

This is mostly a scale dependent issue. The size of this unit means it’s probably not a concern unless you ended up making thousands of them.

I feel like this doesn't happen very often though. I mean I wear sound canceling headphones all the time and I've never noticed it accidentally making anything louder. Then again, I don't normally stand near jet engines.
