After reading the article it seems likely this is still the case. They said operating system links still open in edge even when you have another browser configured, so Microsoft is still putting Edge in a privileged position. I guess we just have to wait and see how privileged it ends up being.

Closed source software has the exact same bullying issue, the difference is instead of the bullies being random people on the internet, they are managers with power over you. They are at least as likely to make you do something dangerous as the randoms, but they don't have to try as hard to hide it.

I'm honest enough I worry about people finding me online, but I will occasionally shift the dates of things happening to me if I'm worried it will be too revealing and I've told some other white lies before as well. The only one that is coming to mind at the moment is I told a dead by daylight streamer I had used Zanshin Tactics to help learn Artist, when in fact I hadn't got the perk yet. I had heard a few times that it was a good offbeat pick for her to learn to predict shots though so it was a lie to make the anecdote more personal to me.

I wouldn't dismiss this just yet. Mozilla has already been doing some open source AI work, specifically their speech offerings. If they invest in these and they get better I think we all stand to gain from having good text to speech and speech recognition available outside of Apple/Amazon/Microsoft/Google

For me its Amazons Wheel of Time series. Seeing the threads get woven into the images of the world and then all coming together to be spun by the great wheel gets me emotional. They could bomb the remaining seasons and I would still be grateful for the opening.

I think people believe it is a sign you are striving to excel or that you care about the work you are doing.

In my case I think I talk about how much overtime I work because I got insecurities about my productivity drilled into me as a child with undiagnosed ADHD. Constantly being told you don't work hard enough regardless of the effort you put in will give you some weird hangups. I think subconsciously its about needing external validation that the time you put in was adequate, or insecurity around 'work ethic'

The problem is you need a executive body that already agrees with you to select you from their choices of consultant. We're not rational creatures and are our personal biases make it so we're more likely to hire the consultant that reflects our preconceived ideas
