I've had the cops lie about me too. Luckily my case wasn't so severe. I'm really, really sorry to hear that happened.

An important distinction these days. I'm curious, how will that dictate the way you vote in the next election? (None of my damn business, but I'm curious.) Feel free to message me about it if you don't want to post here.

My last (and final) relationship.

I was deeply in love, but the other person broke up with me for valid reasons, and then pretended to take me back so they could mentally fuck with me, and it worked.

I'm now a depressive and a semi-hermit. Luckily for me I always liked being alone, or I'd be miserable, but the experience completely changed my personality and I don't get close to people anymore.

Hello's right.

Mastodon, Lemmy, and the Fediverse in general are what you make of it. I want there to be more content, so most days I post an article or two.

If you want more discussion, do the same, engage with people.

I graduated high school before school shootings became a cultural norm.

If you don't want weird political shit, avoid the largest ones, like .social.

I am on mastodon.art which has most of the fascist distros blocked and I use Tusky. I love it.

Mastodon also has great filtering tools and temp muting so you can curate your experience pretty tightly too.

The Shining

I must have seen it at a very early age, maybe 2 or 3, because I had recurring nightmares about the chase scene that I couldn't contextualize until I saw it again in my teens.

Agreed.

I hate the idea of handing her the reigns of government and the power to create untold victims with her authoritarian and selfish approach to the law.

(Problem is, that's our choice either way you vote.)

Like you, I'd expect Kamala to paint herself in a positive light in her own book.

Personally, though, the notions that incarcerating someone for a victimless crime is positive or that our prison system is a proper answer or reformatory for victimless crimes is either exceedingly naive or euphemistically fascist. (And both of those, to me, disqualify someone for the presidency.)

I think that, in a country that is becoming more and more fascist by the day, it's more alarming than people would be willing to admit that Harris built her prosecutorial career around targeting truants and non-violent drug users.

Her prosecutorial career is a microcosm of the fundamental problems in the US criminal justice system, which observably and disproportionately oppresses the poor and makes vast concessions for the wealthy. Her presidency, should it happen, will not change that.

stimulus spending

That's an interesting way to frame rewarding the people who crashed the economy.

Obamacare passed

Another example of something that's framed positively, but in reality, did not deliver. Obamacare is a for-profit health care system, so the access it promises only exists if you can withstand being price-gouged.

But the fact that he had a supermajority at all makes it inexcusable that he didn't codify Roe or pass ENDA. It was an opportunity to make generational change and he simply didn't care to do the work.

Yes.

He had a supermajority for almost a year. He could have codified Roe. He could have passed ENDA. Those two actions would have made such a huge difference for women and transgender people now, and I think it's important to remember that it was a choice by President Obama not to pursue these things.
