This is a shame. I have a foot in the Emergency Management world and one of the things we always recommend is POTS - plain old telephone service. It's always worth having a landline around because it is very robust against network disruptions when communications count.

You have it backwards. Living in cities (and especially growing up there) move you to the left. You see people suffering and you know it's not entirely their fault. You get to know other cultures, eat at their restaurants, hear their music etc.
Assange was the tool of a foreign intelligence service who salted WikiLeaks with disinformation harmful to national interests. I believe the term of art is "useful idiot".
