Every once in a while I'll mention the 'Fairness Doctrine' and someone who never lived through it will commnet that it sounds horrifying.

They spent so much time in propaganda world that actual objectivity is a dangerous concept.

For instance; coffee is imported into England;coffee shops in London were a popular place to do business before modern office building came around; investors began looking for ways to make the ships they were bankrolling safer; pine tar was a great way to keep ships watertight...

They took a negative and turned it into a rallying cry.

Same as with "Yankee Doodle." Yankee was a derogatory term for Americans, because many were of Dutch origin. "Jan" was a popular Dutch name. Doodle mean, well doo-doo.

Funny how some derogatory terms get embraced and others don't.

Nerd used to be a big insult. So was 'porn.'
