Y'know, you would think their obsession with 'the good old days' and "conserve" being in the basis of their namesaks, that their ideology would extend to the environment.

Nawp. Drill baby drill.

I guess by the "good old days" are pretty much the 1910s where we did know much about ecology or conservation.

The reaction works with any liquid with dissolved C02. The Mentos are very rough and act as nucleation sites for C02 bubbles to form. Diet coke happens to have a lot of chemicals that act as foaming agents (aspartame), which creates a bigger reaction. Apparently this process has actually been studied by University physics professors!
