The Google Phone app doesn't often receive huge updates, but a new change to the incoming call UI appears to be in the works.

Luckily Fossify Phone exists.

What is it?

Edit: I just searched about it and wow. Didn't know we have alternative to SimpleTools available already. I have been using the old Simple Notes despite the news of its acquisition out of laziness and not it's the time to switch. Thanks.

Out of the loop, what acquisition?

I use this because it has a feature that is shamefully absent from every other dialer: sending unknown callers directly to voicemail.

Also it is hilariously difficult to decline a call on Google dialer.

I use for another feature somehow missing "confirm call"

Gives you chance to double check the name.

One feature I miss from my Samsung was "flip to silence ringer". Was great for letting spams/unknown ring all the way to voicemail without listening to the ring or making it obvious I declined the call.

My pixel puts the whole damn phone to silent mode.

I dunno what you’re talking about. Stock dialer has it for me.

Apple iOS Settings app showing “Silence Unknown Callers” toggle

Bad jokes aside, is this really not a standard feature? I would’ve thought this would’ve been more common.

That's an iPhone, my guy.

Sadly, it is not standard. Even now. If only fruit company wasn't the way they are and could be trusted. (Not a zinger at you for using their products, just personal decision.)

It's as simple as swiping down on the screen. I agree it's a little under-sensitive if you try to swipe down from the circle with the icon at the bottom. But you can swipe down from anywhere on the screen and it will decline the call.

Its not though. Swipe down and nothing happens.

Great, they're gonna serve ads while we take a fucking phone call next

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

just give us voicemail in the google phone app on samsung

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

I thought this was a limitation on the carrier you used, rather than the brand of phone? While I've not used any Samsung phones (well, none that ran Android), I've gone through various carriers and some of them have supported VVM in the Google Phone app, and others don't seem to.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think that is more intuitive and you can't answer by accident

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Funny, my first thought was that this would be much easier to answer by accident! Since it only requires a tap and not a swipe, it seems to me like a pocket answer or rejection would be a lot more likely to happen without the phone owner even knowing.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 2 weeks ago

Yeah, pocket answers and declines would become very frequent. I already pause music and skip tracks while walking, mowing, etc.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I'd just like for the green answer button to not bounce up and down, sometimes I missed it :-/

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 weeks ago

I think a swipe up gesture from anywhere answers it? I don't actually answer many calls though.

And like all android updates, it's guaranteed to be worse than it was.

Everything's getting shittier.
