Next you’ll be posting unrefrigerated butter out on the counter!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 10 months ago

Blows their cover by using the word "counter" to refer to the kitchen worktop :)

Am American, my fridge is packed with unwashed eggs. You just can't buy them at the store here. Fortunately my pets poop breakfast.

Can we see a picture of your food-pooping pets? I like chickens.

This is 2/3 of our flock, we have a mix of Black Jersey Giants, Sapphire Olive Eggers, Welsummers, Americanas and 1 Brahma.

Blessings on you and your domestic dinosaurs.

I love them all! Beautiful dinos.

They didn't actually say they were chickens...

Now I'm even more curious.

I second this pet photo tax. I even fixed picture uploads the other day, so no excuse!

Just in case you missed it!

Or, in case you want to see them again!!

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago (2 children)

But they're still in the fridge.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

True, old habits and all that.

Serious question: Why don't Americans like unwashed eggs? Was there a breakout of an illness in the past or?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

Apparently it started in the 1970s over concerns about foodborne illnesses, yes. https://tellus.ars.usda.gov/stories/articles/how-we-store-our-eggs-and-why#

You're kidding, but you're not wrong. I worked for Whole Foods pre-Amazon and the number of people who returned eggs or flagged me down upon finding a feather was concerning.

it is not the default to get eggs with the cuticle intact in the US.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 10 months ago

Why would I be scared?

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago

I cross posted it! Pushed the button! I even kept your title.

Should I have shared a link to the post instead?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago
