I used to be an adventurer like you, until I took a world’s tallest mountain to the knee.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

World’s highest peak or tallest mountain above sea level, but not the tallest mountain.

You’ve activated my trap card.

Though contextually it’s obvious I was talking about Everest, I did not explicitly state it.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago

Nah, they calmed down too late.

Good ol’ green boots - even in death you can serve as a trail marker 👍

In 2014, Green Boots was moved to a less conspicuous location by members of a Chinese expedition.

I thought it was all the Sherpas that died trying to get some rich fuck up there.

[–] [email protected] 28 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Since 1922, when the first attempt to climb Everest was made, 193 climbers and 125 Sherpas have died on both sides of the mountain.

So it sounds like less Sherpas have died than climbers, and I'm guessing you have more than one sherpa per climber.

Those numbers seem really low for a hundred year of shenanigans. I am less concerned by the mountaineers that climbed it alongside Sherpas at one point, and am more poking at the rich dickheads who have created the climb Mt Everest industry where Sherpas make sure everything is safe before the dickhead even wakes up. All just to say they climbed the mountain. So maybe at least use statistics from the current decade. It took another 31 years since the first attempt made for an Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay to succeed.

That was my first thought as well. They have to take the same trek, do additional work in it, yet do not have the financial resources to buy the same type of gear... nor can they complain b/c "that's the job". :-|

[–] [email protected] 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

But in the climb we are all family right? /s

[–] [email protected] 2 points 11 months ago

If so, they are getting off super easy, compared to what he does to his REAL fam. :-P

Eagles may soar, but weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Damn, I'm gonna have to chill the fuck out then.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 11 months ago

Ha ha ha, because mountains have snow, and snow is cold. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Unmotivated people die too

[–] [email protected] 10 points 11 months ago

Usually on sofa or bed, so yeah I don't see a problem.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 11 months ago

Heck yeah bring this to us at [email protected] if you haven't already

[–] [email protected] 10 points 11 months ago

I’m sure a few of them were the loved ones of highly motivated people who got dragged along.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 11 months ago

i would like to post this on LinkedIn, but i am afraid i would get banned

[–] [email protected] 5 points 11 months ago

I dunno, rich people will no grasp on the real world spring to mind

[–] [email protected] 4 points 11 months ago

This made me giggle. Thank you OP

[–] [email protected] 1 points 11 months ago

This is my favorite today.

I climb 14ers in the western US. I'm motivated but not that motivated which is why I don't want to climb Everest and can't afford to climb Everest.
