Just don't remind them how many pagan symbols are in there.

Happy Sol Invictus, everyone.

"You got your Saturnalia on my Yule!"

"You got your Yule on my Saturnalia!"

Gotta admit, as an agnostic who was raised gently Christian, that’s part of the reason I’m still comfortable putting all this stuff up in our house. Took a while to figure out a tree topper I liked but one year a saw a dove and that feels less religious to me.

We use a stuffed hamster toy with a santa hat.

Call it the "Ham-star"

We just use a Santa hat. Looks great as a topper. Gotta tilt it slightly.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 10 months ago (1 children)

Oh yeah, the tilt would make it. I’m fond of wild birds so a bird on my tree made sense. Also, to quote Portlandia, “put a bird on it!”

The recurring use of the word bird throughout that series is one of my favorite parts of the show. I love Birdman, the Australian mullet adventurah who shows about at the Air B&B togoonawalkabewt...

"What's a robin?"

"It's a little bidder!"

Fine but I'm not getting down

[–] [email protected] 1 points 10 months ago

look at all those lights. Jesus came all over that house. Jesus is the light of the world.

If you should shout "happy holidays" in front of that house, it all just catches fire instantly.

Thoughts and prayers for the family loving under such dangerous circumstances.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 10 months ago

I get that it's a joke, but "happy holidays" isn't a secular alternative to "merry christmas", as the word "holidays" is literally the words "holy" + "day".

family loving

i guess the typo still makes sense

I think this is their version of fighting back.

I'm just going to come out and say it. Have your Christmas. Nobody else gives a shit about you or what you believe. So celebrate, enjoy. Nobody cares if you do. You don't have to prove anything to anyone about it, and we wouldn't notice if you tried.

So Merry Christmas, happy Festivus, happy holidays, happy Hanukkah.... Whatever you celebrate at this time of year, I hope it's a positive experience and that you and your loved ones enter into the new year as happy and as healthy as they can be.

But don't mistake that sentiment for giving any shits about what you do to celebrate.

I don't even consider Christmas religious any longer. Santa is portrayed far, far more often than Jesus, and that's just fine by me.

Religious people appropriated this holiday and renamed it (see Saturnalia). It's only right for us all to lean into the future being pure Santa.

Happy Saturnalia!
