Summary for those who don’t get the references:

  • In Futurama (a show about a young man who gets accidentally cryogenically frozen until the year 3000), Fry finds the fossilized remains of his pet dog from the year 2000. Ultimately he assumes his dog had a good and full life after his disapperance, but in the epilogue we see that his dog waited for him in front of his workplace (Panucci’s Pizza) throughout the seasons, regardless of the weather, until he aged and died.

  • In Full Metal Alchimist: Brotherhood, the Elric brothers visit an alchemist (Shou Tucker) who is known for having created a chimera capable of understanding human speech. While they study under him, they also spent time playing with his 4 year old daughter Nina and her dog Alexander. Upon returning one day they find Shou has created a new chimera capable of understanding human speech in order to satisfy his yearly alchemist assessment requirements; when the chimera indicates it knows who the Elric brothers are and wants to go out and play it becomes obvious that the chimera was made by combining Shou’s own daughter with the family dog. The resulting being is very sad and confused and doesn’t really understand what has happened to it, and just wants to be back to normal, but there is no way to undo . This chimera is the creature pictured here.

Ultimately, these are two of the most heart-wrenching scenes in animation.

(PS: Fuck Shou Tucker!)

One thing you forgot to mention about the chimera was one of the few things she says is that it hurts.

Fucking broke me the first time I saw FMAB

I know Brotherhood tells a better overall story as it aligns more closely with the manga. BUT, the music and pacing of that scene in the original anime production of FMA hits a little harder, in my opinion.

They fucking broke that show because they needed to pump up the numbers and keep up delivering anime episodes while the plot was still being written. FMA is perfectly done till around ep 25, then it's totally ruined. FMAB rushed the first arcs of the anime because it was already seen by 9/10 of japan and resumed the first 25 episodes in like 11... it's the only show I know characters start flanderized and deflandreizeid slowly through the show.

Now I dont know how to recommend that show. It's like you have to be a hard fan of it in the first place to watch it correctly...

FMA's music and characters where excellently done...

There is still a better way of recommending it, which is recommending the manga

Couldn't agree more

The Hughs chunk in the original hits way harder IMO

For me it was the other way around. FMA had the better story with a drift at the end into the twilight zone, while FMAB drifted into a generic action show. I never understood the hype.

So I only caught a few episodes of the original(including the one in the post) and then watched brotherhood, it’s definitely rushed to that point but I loved everything after that, it wouldn’t be that hard to cut together a playlist of the first 25 of FMA and then let FMAB take over around 11 like you said.
