On other sites, I've been corrected. And I've been corrected a bunch of times here, too.
The difference being here I learned something and it's cool.....
and say over at reddit being corrected on something that you're not only correct about, but called an asshole for it as well.
It's been a really nice change of pace. Thank you, inhabitants of Lemmy.
Unless it's windows...... never admit you're a windows user.... ever... /s
I have tremendous fun posting "Have you tried Windows?" on the Linux communities whenever someone posts a problem
It's exactly what they do a dozen times over on any queries about Windows problems, but strangely they don't find my answer helpful
I did try Linux. I even took a college course and learned enough to pass. But I have a super shitty memory and it was redhat back in the late 90s so ALL THOSE COMMANDS. Jumping Jesus Christ on a pogo stick. I mean Linux had a gui but it was useless. So, instead I’m bashing away at my head with the little animal books, and for what? You couldn’t play games on it. Basically Linux was soooo painfully unenjoyable last time I used it I haven’t touched it since.
A suitable metaphor for this would be saying that you didn't enjoy having to start a Model T Ford with a hand crank so you've refused to drive a car ever since. Reminds my of my Grandfather.
Nah, I should probably try it again for real. I’m sure it has come a long way in almost 25 years. I just haven’t had the time of im being serious.
Well, last time I installed it it was easier than Windows. I put it on my Dad's computer and it just works with his printer etc.
I’ll give it another shot. What distribution would you suggest for someone just starting out? I know that’s a polarizing question.
Can't go wrong with Linux Mint. It works pretty much like Windows so there's little relearning needed.
Good stuff! I’ll give it a go. Thanks!
More like they bought a Model T Ford, and didn't like the build quality.
So they reckon that isn't improved in the new models compared to other manufacturers. Especially if they didn't trust the management behind the company.
Which is a fair opinion to have.
Just because it improved doesn't mean it improved in the areas you had problems with.
Also don't admit you use anything else made/owned by Microsoft. Or Google, Apple, Facebook, Twitter, or—God forbid—Reddit.
Yep, that actual chance at learning something instead of being blindly insulted anyway is such a refreshing change.
~~And especially never admit you're totally not running Windows on a Protogen because you couldn't be bothered to modify it.~~
