FOSS nerds gonna expect everything free.
Oh no! Won't somebody think about the record corporate profits.
I agree. I just don't see how you expect servers to pay for themselves. That's not how any business works.
Google can't use profits from their Google Photos members to pay for YouTube servers. They aren't the same department.
Just like how Amazon owns Twitch, but Twitch doesn't just get free server hosting from Amazon.
You also can't use profits from Google Photos to pay the creators that upload to YouTube. Again, not how it works.
Google has also reported losses from YouTube year after year, because servers aren't cheap, and literally everyone can upload as much as they feel like on YouTube. My YouTube channel is FULL of private videos. I probably have a good 1TB uploaded, that are private, meaning Google is storing them for me, but not profiting anything via ads.
You expect this free? You're insane. Lemmy will never survive, because people like you think everything should be free. Lemmy has no ads, and I bet you would cut a nut off before you donate 1 penny to your instance admins.
My adblocker works just fine.
dont use a smart TV because I'm not an idiot. My adblock works on my phone too. Don't have a pihole or DNS. Shit you spent more time typing out your message than I've spent worrying about ads in the last 10 years.
