I'm more sick of hearing "slop slop slop slop slop" than I am of hearing about AI at this point. People sling slop around like it's some sort of brave, heroic, destructive insult, leaving AI users in tears and shambles in its wake. Ironic considering a complaint against AI is that it regurgitates the same characteristic bit of content over and over again mindlessly. But even ChatGPT would have the writing skill to cycle in some other adjectives, my goodness.
I don’t think anyone using the term “slop” thinks it’s brave or leaving anyone else in tears and shambles. I’m fairly certain when folks say they’re tired of AI slop they literally mean they’re tired of AI slop.
You wouldn’t be calling it “slop” if you thought a human made it in photoshop, which means your judgement isn’t actually based on the quality of the image.
What’s the point of calling it “slop”, then? What is “slop” even supposed to mean if it’s not describing quality?

Anyone can write anything on UrbanDictionary. How often do you actually see that term being used?
Are you a native english speaker? Just curious.
Yeeees although I feel like I'm walking into a trap rn
Not a trap, it's just that "slop" is an english word that has a relevant meaning in this context. It's not like it's just made up slang for describing AI stuff.
Oh, yeah, I know. My issue is more about the word being reused so much. Whenever I see a word take off memetically like that I feel like it's usually accompanied by a lack of deep thought. Almost like a thought-terminating cliche.
Yeah that's exactly what's happening.
Look at comments above like
A lot of people aren't interested in learning about AI as it stands today they're worried about the future.
They see massive corporations trying to replace artists.
If the output is "good" they might just succeed, if the output is "slop" then they can dream of a market solution where consumers band together to look at AI ads/art as lazy and artists get to keep their jobs.
If someone hates AI because of power politics, they're not trying to speak objectively about it, because that objectivity is perceived to support the tech billionaires who are trying to push AI so hard.
Completely agreed. AI haters pride themselves on being creative, but they can't form an original thought on the topic.
