(when you hit the recents button) I can't believe they actually restored a feature that they'd removed by accident during an update this is wild. how long has it been back? how many years did it take them to accomplish this

Why are you still using kiwi browser. Isn't it bing discontinued. The repo is archived. https://github.com/kiwibrowser/src

because I haven't been paying attention, and it still works for everything I need it to work for. is there a security issue with continuing to use it? and is there a good replacement (ie., a mobile browser that uses regular Chrome extensions)

Browser is a sensitive piece of software. So you have to care about it's security.
Extensions are useful but they creat fingerprinting problems. If you need them there is Firefox and it's forks.
BTW what extensions do you use on mobile browsers?

Security is definitely a concern, so replacing it is recommended. I'm not sure about other browsers compatible with Chrome extensions though.
