Sometimes yes, but definitely not with Trek.
So I wasn't into it originally, but watching it again as an adult I'm kinda fond of TNG. Cast is amazing, stories are (mostly) great. But I just love how mature and optimistic it is, for the most part.
Seeing difficult questions of morality and strife - seeing people consistently confront those situations with incredible ethics, empathy, and like, well, ADULTS...it's super-refreshing.
And I like the parts of that which shone through into Voyager, DS9, and Enterprise (in that order, at least what I saw of them. I sorta got into Voyager.
Watching Picard, a lot of the characters are there, but most of what I seem to like about TNG isn't. Plus a bunch of the plot is just nonsense and crappily written. I really don't like it.
I tried watching some of DIS here and there but it fucking sucks (IMO). SNW still seems to have too much melodrama and stuff I just don't like. Maybe if I wasn't trying to compare it to TNG or VOY subconsciously, I would like it more; who knows.
Orville is alright.
Everyone says Lower Decks is really great, and I love Futurama and Venture Bros and Rick and Morty and etc. It probably IS great. But I don't really want throwaways about how phasers can't melt steel beams and fart jokes in Trek.
Guess I'm just picky :)
TNG is my favorite too. I think Lower Decks really walks the fine line of being a little bit silly but still being serious enough to feel like core trek.
I'll give it a shot. Thanks tigeruppercut.
