If the AI wanted to talk me out of conspiracy theories, why don't they use the brain signals to control us to thinking that way? Do the microwaves from the circuits behind the walls all go out of service all of a sudden?

This is just classic silicon valley trying to "innovate", when their real plan was to muscle out CIA and FBI work to non-union contractors.

Ever notice how apologists for Zionism are all terrified at what would happen if Palestinians had authority and power because they assume Palestinians will be as brutal and criminal as the Zionists?

What if they caused Israelis to become refugees? What if they did terror attacks to convince Israelis to leave? What if they passed racist laws that discriminated where a Jew could work, live, and move? Maybe they'll subjugate Israel's people to military justice and deny them rights and citizenship?

Yea, all of that would be horrible and fucking wrong and I would support an embargo on weapons to this hypothetical Palestinian government.

It doesn't matter how good your browser is when you can only access content through an app.

That's the way things are headed, I'm afraid. In a few years you won't be able to load Facebook, Youtube, Reddit, or Twitter(formally X) from a browser.

Am I the only person who watched Singles (1993)? OK, pretty forgettable romcom, but absolutely the soundtrack of the 90s.

No matter how many re watches, the chodes are still going to think DFENSE is a hero.

Building an electric motor and powerful battery was the easy bit. To this day, it remains a mystery how he sourced the 10,000 plastic clips that hold a Tesla together.

I watched a video yesterday about the laser range finder on a tank. The interesting thing is that at long enough ranges, the laser expands into a cone that may be bigger than the target and give inaccurate readings.

Anyway, I look forward to this totally real and feasible technology.

As a consumer and a low skilled worker I think the solution to call the rich "dinner".

I find the author's reasoning strained. They use flat Earthers as an example of the power of photographs to "prove" reality?

I question the central premise that photographs were ever the foundation of reality. Haven't filmmakers been fooling us with photography for over a hundred years?

Bring a diaper (nappy). When you go swimming, you can put valuables in the diaper (cellphone, jewelry, etc) and not worry that anyone will take it.

I hate America, because that's where I'm from and what I know the most about. If I lived in your country, I'd hate it more.

If you're a person who prefers to type commands than click through menus then you should try the "run" program in the "powertoys" suite from Microsoft.

It a launcher program that's superior to Start in every way. You can type in plain English system commands like "shutdown"; a search that actually works; you can pass queries into your browser's search engine; and of course launch programs by typing in their names. You can even enter entire registry addresses to open regedit at the desired location.

This is a complete replacement for the Start Menu.

When Florida changed it's law to allow ex-felons to vote, I remember reading that the legislature put as many roadblocks as they could. Felons must complete all sentences, fines, and restitution before they can vote.

So any sentence or sanction that can't be fulfilled by November should exclude him from Florida's rolls, right?

My calendar application changed the method to add events and broke my workflow.

My workaround: I typed basic schedule info into Perplexity and have it convert the data to a CSV file and import it.

They made Claudine Gay resign, meanwhile this motherfucker.

I think AI is neat.

The way I read the article, the "worth millions" is the sum of the ransom demand.

The funny part is that the exploit is in the "smart" contract, ya know the thing that the blockchain keeps secure by forbidding any updates or patches.

The researchers started by sketching out the problem they wanted to solve in Python, a popular programming language. But they left out the lines in the program that would specify how to solve it. That is where FunSearch comes in. It gets Codey to fill in the blanks—in effect, to suggest code that will solve the problem.

A second algorithm then checks and scores what Codey comes up with. The best suggestions—even if not yet correct—are saved and given back to Codey, which tries to complete the program again. “Many will be nonsensical, some will be sensible, and a few will be truly inspired,” says Kohli. “You take those truly inspired ones and you say, ‘Okay, take these ones and repeat.’”

After a couple of million suggestions and a few dozen repetitions of the overall process—which took a few days—FunSearch was able to come up with code that produced a correct and previously unknown solution to the cap set problem, which involves finding the largest size of a certain type of set. Imagine plotting dots on graph paper. The cap set problem is like trying to figure out how many dots you can put down without three of them ever forming a straight line.

We demonstrate a situation in which Large Language Models, trained to be helpful, harmless, and honest, can display misaligned behavior and strategically deceive their users about this behavior without being instructed to do so. Concretely, we deploy GPT-4 as an agent in a realistic, simulated environment, where it assumes the role of an autonomous stock trading agent. Within this environment, the model obtains an insider tip about a lucrative stock trade and acts upon it despite knowing that insider trading is disapproved of by company management. When reporting to its manager, the model consistently hides the genuine reasons behind its trading decision.

"robots" engendered from human trachea cells have shown surprising behavior in their ability to self-assemble, move, and "heal" damaged neurons.
