You might like "the old man's war" series by John Scalzi. Basically aliens came to earth gave us technology and we created an earth defense army in space to fight the other aliens, but to join the army you must be 70 years old.

Another good series is expeditionary force. Aliens attack earth and one guy takes the fight to the aliens and with the help of a sentient super fast intelligent Ai captains a spaceship fighting aliens. This one is good but after the first few books the story beats and jokes start to repeat. The author should of stopped in my opinion around book 5 but he kept going with the same stories.

I had a Microsoft support scammer once... I let him in to my system too..well not really.

I quickly spin up a quick fresh install of slack ware Linux in a virtual machine that didn't even have x11 never mind wine installed. When it was up I told him a friend uses something called tellynet (aka telnet but I was playing dumb) to help me on the computer.

He telnetted in and could not understand why any of his malware wasn't working...

He's like superman. When he needs to charm a partner he quickly finds a phone booth spins around really fast and comes out in a different shirt!

In this case I do partially agree with it. They are for medical implants and since the expected lifetime of the device is 10 years we need to be able to support them for 10 years after the last surgery.

If the dog eats your controller which allows you to turn on and off your device we need to be able to sell you a new controller and NOT tell you "sorry, you need to spend several hundreds of thousands of dollars in medical bills to replace the device and go through a traumatic surgery to install it"

Now optimally my company would make a modern program that duplicates the technology but is compatible with modern computers but since are no longer making money on these old devices they don't want to invest the time and money. So yeah..

I think it was 2017 we got rid of our last system running freedos in a console since the original program required do to operate...

I work in a field that is considered by many high tech. I have personally seen a system in use today that duel boots windows 2000 and windows 98.

The product it's used by is old generations and the system does not have any network access but still must be supported by government regulation for several more years....
