I don't observe any homophobia in that comment. Their statement is that fascists submit to anything Fox News says, and makes no remarks about oral sex beyond the graphic metaphor. Also fascist is a genderless term so there is no way to know if the fascist is gobbling on same or opposite gender cock.

I Amtrak'd from North Carolina to Michigan via DC. Took 24 hours. To compare, to drive was about 10 hours. I went into it knowing it was likely going to be a bad experience, but I had things to read and I was curious.

I'd do it again, but I'd arrange for a sleeper cabin and plan stops along the way. 24 hours on a train sitting upright was too much.

Meanwhile in Japan I took a train from Tokyo to Kyoto, 6 hours drive, less than 2 hours by train. So comfortable, so much space, and so convenient. I could easily nap in their upright seats, extremely comfortable, climate controlled, flying through beautiful rural regions full of mountains and trees.

Until the US stops treating humans worse than freight, you are going to need a high tolerance for bullshit to make a cross-country trip by train.

That is a good question.

The world of late stage capitalism. When "scammer" starts to become a common profession.. perhaps instead of asking why everyone is becoming a scammer, ask what type of system rewards and necessistates it, and why?

There are hints in this discussion to what is wrong with the world we inhabit that leads people down this path, and that is the picture I want to draw for you.

In short, people are extremely desperate. Some might think this is just how things are, but I happen to be one of the people who thinks it is by design. The richest want to keep the workers hungry, afraid, lacking security, and the house (in which they have financial stake in) can rake in the gains. The intentional applied divisiveness of capitalism.

In that context, I wanted to point out the privileged life that you likely live in order to not realize the desperation that drives someone to capitalize on every financial opportunity available, even the crazy ones. My statement isn't in favor of making revenue on X, Y, or Z platform, my statement is in critique over your critique of how others earn a living, as well as your disregard for their situation. I was urging you to walk a mental mile in someone else's shoes.

Also I apologize for mocking you, it's not personal but I couldn't resist taking the piss out of your comment.

I would love it if the government banned Reddit.

Lemmy I could live without. If any users are making their livelihoods on Lemmy or Reddit, they should find something more productive to do.

I nominate this for the least aware comment on lemmy. We truly have a gem here. "If someone is making their living in a way I don't understand, they should get a real job. After all, it doesn't affect me, so it must be fine."

Truly well-spoken, just look at all of the many high-paying jobs available to people of all skill levels, I mean, it's not enough that an entire generation needs to hustle and convert every waking moment into opportunities to generate capital in order to barely survive.. but also please do it in a way that Stovetop understands and supports. Otherwise, it's not "productive", whatever high-minded values that meaningless phrase is supposed to represent. Clueless.

Null empathy, null emotional intelligence, null consideration. Truly a masterpiece.

Stovetop please stay the way you are, we want to study you.

Its always, no no this is for X, not Y.

(a few years pass)

They accepted X, now there is precedent, let's take Y.

This is the start, not the finish.

Fight this or it will make its way to your interests.

Haha, can we even imagine how big the codebase is? Must be nutty. That's a cool thought.

Well, your anecdote is certainly more influential to me than listening to a core developer. Plus I want to believe you are right because it feels bad to believe otherwise, so you are obviously correct.

Hmm, guess it sounds silly when I say it that way. I'll work on it.

Joking, I don't use Windows, but I hope you are right.

Sometimes I feed the trolls.
Hope your belly is full.
But my story is what I said it was.
Pigeons do what pigeons do.

No one reading this thread is surprised that 21 words is the limit of your cognition. I sincerely believe that you are doing your best.

Want to know how I became homeless? I turned 18, and my parents said, "Alright have a nice life, you're 18 now don't be home when I get back." After 18 years of teaching me zero life skills. Took me until my late 20s to find stability, meanwhile being constantly harassed by police for looking for a place to rest between time at school and work.

And before you go to the obvious speculation that lazy commenters always do. I didn't and don't drink alcohol, don't do drugs, spent all of my time building computers. My parents just didn't like having to spend money on someone that wasn't them. I was always in advanced classes in school and most always was a solid B student even with zero home support. If it wasn't for me winning the genetic lottery with my mind, I'd likely be dead or in prison like most of my childhood friends.

But you know, this is an anecdote and has no value in the vast scheme of things. Data driven results are all that matter, and yet, they still disagree with your lazy assessment that people are the source of their own situation. Believe it or not, these questions have been asked and answered, yet you remain unaware of them. The safety and support systems in the society you live in dictate homelessness, and I can tell you first hand, we have none in my country.

But that's all the energy I can send to you, its not useful trying to teach chess to a pigeon, at the end of the day you're going to spread your shit around and knock over the board anyway (a summary of your comments in this thread).

Hope you open your eyes and your mind some day.

Footnote, if anyone cares about the ending to the homeless part of my story, I became a home owner in my 30s after living in rented rooms with Craigslist randoms for about a decade. Interesting times, most people are great.

I understand your perspective. Hopefully my critique wasn't overstepping. I'm just one person with some ideas I thought would help you. Maybe so, maybe not! Seems like we're both trying and that is all we can do. Have a nice day.
