My perspective: Thr right-wing people have a too narrow perspective on trying new things. Where I live it's them yelling the loudest about how to use language. And writhing, yelling and opposing things just for the sake of it doesn't get you anywhere. We'd need to talk about how to include people, be nice and how to actually tackle the underlying problems. But people are too lazy for that. It's easier to debate a strawman and make it about who tries to tell whom, how to speak. And the issues doesn't ever gets dealt with. The whole debate is childish and entirely misses the point.

I think you're completely right with that assessment. Journalist used to be a reputable profession. And explaining things and processing raw information into something that can be consumed by the reader, deemed important. Especially getting it right. There is a whole process to it if you do it professionally. And curating content and deciding what is significant and gets an audience is equally as important.

Doing away with all of that is like replacing your New York Times with your 5-year-old and whatever she took from watching the news.

Yeah, I think comments shouldn't vanish along with a deleted post. And posts and comments shouldn't get automatically deleted alongside an account. Somehow everything is just the other way around here. And it's rarely a good thing.

Haha, thx for the info. That answers one of the questions I had. I use protonvpn-free for testing and debugging, check if my firewall works and the webservices ban me if I try brute forcing my webservices. But I've nener tried torrenting on that connection.

What about https://protonvpn.com/en/free-vpn/

Do they do shady stuff, too? They say:

"[...] the Proton VPN Free plan has the same level of security as our paid plans, including the same strong VPN protocols and strict no-logs policy."

They don't allow BitTorrent on the free plan... But I don't know how that translates to you using BitMagnet, since you're not downloading the torrents.

Yeah, there are lots of distributed filesystems and platforms... the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS), Freenet, GNUnet, Osiris, ZeroNet, Dat, I2P, Tahoe-LAFS...

Maybe the Web 3.0 gets us there.

Haha, yeah I didn't think it through properly. There are a lot of 90s TV series that got filmed on magnetic tape in 480. Guess you can't re-master Ally McBeal and redo the CGI / spaceship scenes in full HD. They could do it for Captain Kirk but the era after that is just SD television with stereo(?) sound and that's it, you're right. Sometimes people re-encode old stuff with more modern codecs and I've deleted old, blocky and very compressed DivX versions I had on my old computer.

Basically yes, Like Netflix, just without Netflix increasing subscription prices every one to two years while removing content I like. And being a for-profit company that makes me pay more and creators earn less. I mean I can afford $30 a month if it gives me all the TV series I like, movies and audiobooks and all the music out there. For all I care it could bill me per view if that gets close to that amount of money... I'm not opposed to paying in the first place... It's just that too much content has become unavailable on Netflix. And I like Spotify, but they're paying artists next to nothing. I don't see any benefit there, If they're ripping off the artists anyways... Why not do it myself, cut out the middle-man and save the bucks?

And all of the services make everything difficult to use, Netflix crapped out after I connected via another internet connection, Disney doesn't work on my old TV. And Star Trek isn't available on either of them. All the data-collecting and DRM shit on top that doesn't allow me to watch full-HD on Linux... Yeah and I want to use a Kodi-Box, not a Fire-TV-Stick.

A distributed filesystem with all the content that mankind has ever created. Nothing gets taken down, everything is encoded in HEVC or AV1, 3D and mega-superduper-sound. Streaming clients for every platform and TV. And monetization built in so the content creators have some motivation to upload their content themselves and get payed directly, without labels and other companies in the middle who take the largest cut.

I like your joke better 😆 However... If the x-axis was time, you'd have to explain the negative part to me. Or stop at least at -9 months...

It's not square, though, but cubed. x^2 looks very different. And 2 isn't an odd number (see title.)

But if the lower diagram was x^2 (and the axis were labelled correctly) I'd say that's a proper joke 😃

The axis aren't labeled properly. That's likely why we can't make sense of the diagrams.

Everyone elses life oscillates over time between positive and negative... OP's life's Y is X cubed. And it somehow contains big blue dots on the whole numbers... They consider that odd. And I'd agree.
