Yea I'm pretty sure this is what OP heard about, it's a common tidbit that gets shared

Ownership wasn't secret then, and it's not secret now. What happened then was that they bought transit things and shut them down. That COULD happen now too, but it would happen pretty publicly

They do lobby governments though

They came out with this year's edition, and moved a few question numbers around. The old one is now useless

Would it help to add a "what is this" type link. Or maybe "about bot"

Oh I didn't realize that was you. Hopefully they knock it off soon 😄

It's funny I just came from this post, which I suspect is this exact problem. Spammy apps collecting contact details and then tricking more people into signing up:

Sounds like a really spammy and annoying way to promote an app. I assume someone else who has your phone number signed up on their app and gave access to all their contacts. Then the app sends out spam texts to get you to sign up.

Depending on where you are located, you might be able to report it. Otherwise just drop them a bad review, or name and shame them here

edit, I assume it's this: https://slickapp.co/

I haven't tried it in a while, but I think there are browser extensions for it. Might need to ask someone else for how to do it these days

I feel like avoiding them or waiting might end up with a situation where some group of humans causes irreversible harm because they think they know better.

Once enough deliberation has been done and we're ready to act in good faith, we should probably make contact and set a good precedent quickly. Maybe then we can guide future interactions in a more positive way?

It's been on and off all day

I think they may be joining in the context of their social media presence? Not sure though, I'm not familiar with what they do
