every software is like. your mission-critical app requires you to use the scrimble protocol to squeeb some snorble files for sprongle expressions. do you use:

  • libsnorble-2-dev, a C library that the author only distributes as source code and therefore must be compiled from source using CMake
  • Squeeb.js, which sort of has most of the features you want, but requires about a gigabyte of Node dependencies and has only been in development for eight months and has 4.7k open issues on Github
  • Squeeh.js, a typosquatting trojan that uses your GPU to mine crypto if you install it by mistake
  • Sprongloxide, a Rust crate beloved by its fanatical userbase, which has been in version 0.9.* for about four years, and is actually just a thin wrapper for libsnorble-2-dev
  • GNU Scrimble, a GPLv3-licensed command-line tool maintained by the Free Software Foundation, which has over a hundred different flags, and also comes with an integrated Lisp interpreter for scripting, and also a TUI-based Pong implementation as an "easter egg", and also supports CSV, XML, JSON, PDF, XLSX, and even HTML files, but does not actually come with support for squeebing snorble files for ideological reasons. it does have a boomeresque drawing of a grinning meerkat as its logo, though
  • Microsoft Scrimble Framework Core, a .NET library that has all the features you need and more, but costs $399 anually and comes with a proprietary licensing agreement that grants Microsoft the right to tattoo advertisements on the inside of your eyelids
  • snorblite, a full-featured Perl module which is entirely developed and maintained by a single guy who is completely insane and constantly makes blog posts about how much he hates the ATF and the "woke mind-virus", but everyone uses it because it has all the features you need and is distributed under the MIT license
  • Google Squeebular (deprecated since 2017)

the idea that population size is the driving force of ecological collapse is ecofascist. the world is being burned by a few hundred people, not the majority of the population.

at this point i'm starting to believe that the reddit format just rots people's brains.
i don't know the reason behind this decision, maybe it was taken in bad faith or something, but the amount of people shitting and pissing themselves over this when there are already other communities better specialized for it is mind numbing.

not a perfect solution but better than nothing, i'll keep it in mind

sounds nice but no i need those extensions

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 months ago

no. i literally just want a way to open a site from an app shortcut in firefox.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 months ago

tried it again the extensions seem to work now, maybe it was a bug with firefox?
anyway the widgets the add to home screen thing adds don't open in the normal firefox app, there's no search bar for example

i use firefox with a lot of extensions, making the shortcut widget with the built-in add to home screen function won't work because it'll open the site with extensions disabled.

i've managed to make it work better by making the shortcut with internet disabled which opens the link in the actual firefox app but that gives the shortcut app a generic icon which looks bad.

i've searched around and there are apps that make shortcuts but no luck finding a foss one.

technically speaking saying your date of birth isn't directly saying how old you are, but you're on thin ice

i found one on fdroid but it was old and the directory selector was broken and couldn't really work outside of it's default for some reason, it also rendered the page i'm trying to use really weirdly, like it wasn't sending some file over and the css got borked.

Found one that wasn't foss, installed it, opened it, "buy premium to unlock this feature", uninstalled it.

i've been searching for a while but none of the ones i find are great, the one i landed on hasn't been updated in over a year

i've been trying to get rid of non-foss garbage as much as possible but i haven't found anything to replace the microsoft launcher yet, a few good candidates but they were all either underbaked or too unstable to use. Any suggestions?

I'm pretty comftable with linux mint right now but i want to peruse the wares so to speak, what are some cool or interesting distros that do things differently than mint?

Edit: i dont wanna distro hop people cool your jets, i just wanna look around cos i find it neat :3

Funds are limited at the moment and i'd rather not have a monthly subscription to worry about.
i'm not in the US, if that changes anything

i installed tor to use z-lib cos the clearnet site got taken down. wondering what sites to use to find cool or interesting stuff, and which ones to avoid for the aforementioned horrid images

I've seen multiple people here talk about lucky patcher and wanted to try it out, found the official site though reddit (cos I've had google give me badware links for things like these before) and the site rang every alarm bell in my brain.
From the too-good-to-be-true premise to the red text before the download saying that the app is Perfectly Safe, scanned the apk with virustotal (not perfectly accurate i know) and it returned a bunch of flags.

So is luckypatchers.com the actual site?

Edit: got the apk from the direct download link in the subreddit's about page and ran it on waydroid, seemed legit but also very old and the custom patches would just make the app (YouTube in this case) close instantly.
Might be some google service detecting something's off or maybe the patch is just outdated.
