And we will continue to support them 100% of the way, so as to keep the duopoly and the status quo of supporting genocides all over the world.

More forever wars where the working class continue to be killed off, while the owner-class and their lackeys rake in their profits and natural resources.

Sadly, not the only billionaire pushing for more surveillance.

Another big one is Peter Thiel.

Edit: word, polic->police

Even more of a police state.^[[1] https://youtu.be/8c_UdWo4Zek | https://lemmy.world/post/19890492]

On Thursday, Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison shared his vision for an AI-powered surveillance future during a company financial meeting, reports Business Insider. During an investor Q&A, Ellison described a world where artificial intelligence systems would constantly monitor citizens through an extensive network of cameras and drones, stating this would ensure both police and citizens don't break the law.

Thanks, here is more information about Crikey:

Crikey is an independent Australian source for news, investigations, analysis and opinion focusing on politics, media, economics, health, international affairs, the climate, business, society and culture. We are guided by a deceptively simple, old idea: tell the truth and shame the devil.

Pavel Durov's arrest suggests that the law enforcement dragnet is being widened from private financial transactions to private speech.

The arrest of the Telegram CEO Pavel Durov in France this week is extremely significant. It confirms that we are deep into the second crypto war, where governments are systematically seeking to prosecute developers of digital encryption tools because encryption frustrates state surveillance and control. While the first crypto war in the 1990s was led by the United States, this one is led jointly by the European Union — now its own regulatory superpower.

Durov, a former Russian, now French citizen, was arrested in Paris on Saturday, and has now been indicted. You can read the French accusations here. They include complicity in drug possession and sale, fraud, child pornography and money laundering. These are extremely serious crimes — but note that the charge is complicity, not participation. The meaning of that word “complicity” seems to be revealed by the last three charges: Telegram has been providing users a “cryptology tool” unauthorised by French regulators.

Cross-post comment:

Geerling also demonstrated that the 2GB Pi 5 comes with a couple of unexpected benefits that Upton didn't mention in his announcement—that the 2GB Pi 5 runs a little cooler and uses a little less power than the 4GB and 8GB editions. The 2GB Pi used just 2.4 W or power at idle and 8.9 W during a CPU stress test, compared to 3.3 W and 9.8 W in the 4GB version. The SoC of the 2GB Pi measured 30° Celsius at idle and 59° under load, compared to 32° and 63° for the 2GB version. Those are all small but significant differences, given that nothing has changed other than the SoC.

As to the exact functionality that was removed from the chip for the 2GB version of the Pi, the company hasn't gotten specific. But Geerling speculates that it's mostly related to functionality that's being handled by the custom RP1 I/O chip—RP1 handles the Ethernet and USB controllers, display interfaces, and GPIO, among other things.

So is it worth stepping down to a 2 GB Pi 5 just to get the simpler D0 chip? No. But is it cool to have a cheaper 2 gig option exist? Yes. Just make sure you have a use case for it that doesn't need a ton of RAM.^[[1] https://www.jeffgeerling.com/blog/2024/new-2gb-pi-5-has-33-smaller-die-30-idle-power-savings]

TIL entertainment personality wrestler continues his persona that he is famous for and goes viral for controversial commentary again while advertising his new product.

Hogan, an ardent Donald Trump supporter, made the comments on Monday night at the Thirsty Cowboy bar in Medina, Ohio, while promoting his new beer, TMZ reports.

“Want me to body-slam somebody? You want me to body-slam Kamala Harris?” he asked the roaring crowd, as seen in a video obtained by TMZ. “I said, ‘Do you want me to body-slam Kamala Harris?’”

“You want me to drop a leg on Kamala?” he asked.

“Is Kamala a chameleon? Is she Indian?” he asked.

“I am going to get heat for that one, brother. That was not me. That was the beers talking,” he claimed to the crowd.

In 2015, Hogan was abruptly fired from World Wrestling Entertainment after tapes surfaced of him repeatedly using a racial slur in 2007. Hogan eventually apologized and was reinstated into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2018, BBC News reports.^[[1] https://www.huffpost.com/entry/hulk-hogan-body-slam-kamala-harris_n_66c60869e4b01c59f9ddce97]

Thanks for sharing!

Although he claimed that he was 22 years old, he was actually 18.

Poe served for two years, attaining the rank of Sergeant Major for Artillery, the highest rank that a non-commissioned officer could achieve. He then sought to end his five-year enlistment early.

Poe revealed his real name and his actual circumstances to his commanding officer, Lieutenant Howard, who promised to allow Poe to be honorably discharged if he reconciled with Allan.

Perhaps softened by his wife's death, Allan agreed to support Poe's desire to receive an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York.[26]

Poe was finally discharged on April 15, 1829, after securing a replacement to finish his enlistment.

Poe traveled to West Point and matriculated as a cadet on July 1, 1830.[32] In October 1830, Allan married his second wife Louisa Patterson.[33] This marriage and the bitter quarrels with Poe over children born to Allan out of extramarital affairs led to the foster father finally disowning Poe.[34] Poe then decided to leave West Point by intentionally getting court-martialed. On February 8, 1831, he was tried for gross neglect of duty and disobedience of orders for refusing to attend formations, classes, and church. Knowing he would be found guilty, Poe pleaded not guilty to the charges in order to induce dismissal.[35]

Briahna Joy Gray and Robby Soave discuss Google firing more employees over sit-ins over its cloud computing contract with Israel.

Edit:

  • replaced yt link with correct link

Short Summary

  1. 50 Google employees were fired following protests against the company's contract with Israel's Nimbus project, a $1.2 billion deal for cloud services to the Israeli government and military.
  2. The protests were sparked by concerns over the use of Google's technology in the conflict with Gaza, with employees demanding assurances that their work would not contribute to warfare.
  3. Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated that the workplace is not a place for politics, leading to the firings.
  4. A legislative battle is ongoing between Google and California regarding a bill that would require tech giants to compensate news publishers for using their content on platforms or in search results.
  5. In response to the bill, Google removed California news websites from some search results, drawing criticism from California State Senator Mike McGuire among others.
  6. The situation underscores the challenges faced by newspapers in the digital age, where advertising revenue has largely shifted to online platforms.
  7. The video discusses the legal similarities between news shows and search engines under internet laws like Section 230, highlighting Google's significant power and profits from its search engine monopoly.
  8. There's a debate on whether Google will prioritize journalism over profits, especially as deplatforming news sites could affect the search engine's effectiveness and open doors for competitors.
  9. Similar regulatory challenges faced by Google in Australia and Canada are mentioned, where the company had to negotiate with the government over news content.
  10. The speaker acknowledges the complexity of the issue, mentioning a company that felt harmed by being blocked on Google despite seeking help, and commits to further investigation into the matter.

  7. The video also touches on the perception of Tesera leaking information to friends on Discord rather than to the press for public interest.
  8. The complexity of these cases and the consequences faced by individuals leaking classified information are highlighted in the discussion.
  9. The speaker discusses two separate stories involving individuals who compromised classified information.
  10. The vulnerability of individuals to deception and manipulation is reflected upon, emphasizing the importance of being cautious and skeptical of suspicious communications.

In 1889 an international federation of socialist groups and trade unions designated May 1 as a day in support of workers, in commemoration of the Haymarket Riot in Chicago (1886). Five years later, U.S. Pres. Grover Cleveland, uneasy with the socialist origins of Workers’ Day, signed legislation to make Labor Day—already held in some states on the first Monday of September—the official U.S. holiday in honour of workers. Canada followed suit not long afterward.
